Photos and Description of this Abruzzo holiday house Sleeps 4 with stunning views

This detached house is in an unspoilt and tranquil location but within easy reach of beaches, shops and restaurants. The long private balcony enjoys stunning views over the valley which ensures you have a relaxing holiday. Altino and nearby Casoli are medieval hill top villages that offer quiet bars and restaurants with views of the beautiful mountains. Lanciano, the largest of the local towns offers superb ancient sites to visit as well as a huge variety of shops, bars and restaurants. It has a large market on Saturday where local produce and crafts can be purchased, The popular festa takes place in September. Another local town is Atessa being walled and cobbled with its' own market. There is a water park within easy reach and horse riding and fishing nearby. In the winter ski slopes are 45 minutes drive into the mountains. The Maella National Park is on your doorstep with terrific hill walking and spectacular scenery. This is the 'real' Italy.

Lanciano/Altino area. Lanciano is the largest of the local towns. It predates Rome as the centre and has several ancient sites to visit, including the church of the Eucharistic Miracle which allegedly contains a drop of the blood of Christ. It is a bustling town with a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. It has a large market on Saturday where local produce and crafts can be purchased and its popular feste takes place in September. Another nearby town is Atessa, being walled and cobbled with its own market (as most towns and villages have) and shops. A few minutes away is the town of Casoli, where some of the best home-made ice cream in the area can be found although I would also recommend that in the bar at San Vito Marina on the coast. Further inland the towns of Larna dei Peligni, Pescocostanza and Sulmona are also worth a visit for their architecture, museums and local crafts. You can take a boat trip or go rafting on the lake at Bomba (a short distance away.

Further details for this holiday house rental in Abruzzo, Italy

How to get there Ryanair to Pescara (nearest) then by car. Easyjet to Rome, then by car, more details when booking. Nearest Airport Pescara approximately 60 km. Car essential. Not suitable for young children.

Abruzzo has a long Adriatic coastline with beautiful beaches and superb fish restaurants. This is a wine and olive oil producing area and Montepulciano is the llocal grape not to be missed along with sparkling white Prosecco. The pace of life is slow and relaxed, people have the time of day for you and will be really pleased if you say hello to them even if you can't speak any more Italian than this. It is a much undeveloped region and caters mainly to the Italian holiday makes during hte month of August. Outside this time, you will find beaches fairly deserted during the week. The climate is warn enough from March to November for all outside activities and in December the local ski slopes are open. May to September is the feste season, October is the grape harvest and November the olives are picked and pressed.

The Italian Job - Solid Gold Holiday Memories

Big Gezza London England
Review Submitted: September 13, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Variety is key for this stunning rural location where you are instantly engrossed into the local and traditional Italian country way of life. There's something for everyone no matter the size, or the desires and wishes of the holiday party. A visit to the local town enables you to view the local Olive and Vineyard industries whilst eventually stocking up with the traditional Italian fayre, or the usual brands, from which tourists sometimes, just can't seem to escape! Blending in amongst the local people and their culture will be second nature before too long, they are very friendly people.

Options for fun, enjoyment, and rest are endless. Either via leisurely walks, or, by car, take in the unbelievable and beautiful mountainous scenery, lakes, waterfalls, or visit the local and National parks. Alternatively for those requiring the more traditional holiday pursuits, both popular and quiet beaches, with their gorgeous and unbeatable ice cream, are within easy driving distance, as is a fun packed water park. The traditional and interesting Lanciano and Casoli, are full of historical tradition, restaurants, bars, cafe's and vibrant night life. Even Pescara the famous and busy main East Coast Italian city, is impressively authentic, interesting, and bustling at traditional times. Locals ensure they maintain standards to cater for the many tourists, it attracts. It is well worth the 50 minute drive, especially if you are missing the big city syndrome!. If you have come to this advertised property just to 'chill out ' you've also picked the right place, just thoroughly enjoy the spacious, well appointed, traditionally decorated and thoughtfully furnished accommodation. The view across the valley is simply spectacular. I brought my family here for two weeks at the end of July. We returned thoroughly impressed with all aspects, especially the accommodation and the weather where it hardly dropped below 37 centigrade, all fortnight. Now, where did we put that family photo album, we certainly have indeed enjoyed some more 'Solid Gold Holiday Memories'

Understated house in perfect location

AJD & CPD Devon U.K.
Review Submitted: August 6, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
An ideal location for those who wish to relax and enjoy the dolce vita or alternatively for those wanting a more active holiday with the occasional short car trips to marvel at the fantastic scenery, visit the classic hill top villages, see the rich history of the area, laze or swim at the sandy beaches, take fabulous walks in the mountains, enjoy finding those wonderful little ristorantes, visit the local markets, etc., etc., We could go on.
The house far exceeded our expectations in terms of the space, quality of furnishings, facilities, and privacy. The highlight being the huge, very private balcony with incredible views across the valley in front of you, mountains to your right and the sea in the far distance to your left. It is ideal for sunbathing, breakfasts in the morning sunshine, and BBQ's.
A Fantastic Holiday
P.S. Don't miss the fantastic patisserie in Altino for their bread and especially their fresh hot croissants for breakfast.
P.P.S. The best find in the area was the co-operative vinery in Castelbordino where you can buy quality local wine at ridiculously cheap prices.

Beautiful House with a view

twenty-four Kent UK
Review Submitted: July 26, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
The description of the house is spot on, it was very clean and well maintained. The bedrooms, living areas and kitchen are spacious with all the necessary appliances. The views from the balcony are breathtaking. You can spend from early morning to mid afternoon laying in the sun, dining alfresco or a twenty minute drive takes you down to the coast road which gives you options of numerous beaches marinas and beach side restaurants. The nearby town of Selva di Altino also has a couple of nice restaurants, wine bars and a Supermarket, and the larger towns of Lanciano and Casoli, a short drive away offer more choice. A ten minute drive in the other direction takes you up into the mountains whre lakes and waterfalls can be found along with small towns that appear to be so close to the edge of the mountain you wonder how they stay up.Rome is only a two hour drive away by car,or two and a half hours by bus from Pescara.I would recommend this property to friends and strangers alike and will return for another holiday in the near future.
