Cordes-sur-Ciel is set in one of the most beautiful, idyllic regions of French countryside imaginable and is almost two places in one. The pretty French village with a typical range of shops and a street market on Saturdays. The River Cerou runs through Cordes with rivers Tarn and Aveyron nearby. Then there is the medieval bastide town of Cordes which is contained in streets which rise up a hill from the village and has many shops, restaurants etc. There is a variety of cuisine available here, some of which has an international reputation for excellence including the Grand Ecyuer which has hosted the Queen Mother. There are Artist/craft shops and much to see with approximately 50 artists and craftsmen of various trades. The hillside vineyards of the Gaillac wine appellation, the dramatic gorges of the Aveyron river, the forests and the many ancient hill-top bastide villages are all nearby as is the city of Albi and the pretty Les Cabannes where boules is played in the village centre.
