A lovely apartment in Scotland’s capital, ‘Number 26’ is situated in historic and attractive Dean Village on the banks of the Water of Leith in central Edinburgh. This one bedroom apartment is a 10 minute walk from the city’s Princes Street and West End. Nearby you will find shops, restaurants and galleries including the Dean Gallery and The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. If you fancy a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Inverleith Park and the Water of Leith are within walking distance. Number 26 is located in an A-Listed red sandstone building that dates from 1884 and was originally commissioned as homes for the local mill workers. Inside the redecorated second floor apartment you will find 1 large double bedroom, a comfortable lounge, a shower room and a fully equipped kitchen. Number 26 offers everything to make your stay, whether it be for a few days or a week, a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Coast/Beaches: The nearest beaches to Edinburgh are at Cramond and at Portobello, just outside the city centre. Both beaches are easily reached by bus or taxi or by car.

Golf: Gullane, Muirfield and North Berwick are all within an hour's drive of Edinburgh. Other famous courses which can be reached - and returned from - within a day include St Andrews Old Course and Gleneagles. If you are looking for local golf courses, you can play on one of Edinburgh's many public courses, including Braid Hills, Craigentinny and Silverknowes.

Wonderful apartment

I visited Edinburgh as part of the Fringe festival over August bank holiday with my sister (2009). The apartment is no more than 10 minutes walk to the city centre so very good for people without a car. The walk into town is up hill but that didn't stop us from exploring the city everyday and of course its down hill on the way home. The apartment is situated in what was a very early social housing estate for a rich mill owner so the building has about as much character as you can get and there are several walks in the immediate area that make you feel a million miles away from the city. You really do have the best of both worlds and I would book the apartment again for a romantic weekend next time.

The only thing worth mentioning is that I think the apartment would be a little cramped for more than 2 people. Also, I had the sofa bed, which was fine for a couple of nights but any more than that and you'll feel achy in the morning. If you have a baby or buggy it might be tiring as the aprtment is situated two floors up and like I said, it's an uphill walk into town.

The apartment owner is wonderful and lives locally, we found that Sarah was very welcoming and also had some great tips for us in reference to the festival. I had an amazing time at the festival and the apartment was the icing on the cake.
