Sitting on the first hilltops overlooking the seashore, tucked away at the end of a long access road, the cottage offers all one expects for a romantic refuge: peace, quiet, comfort, a large wood-burning fire place, beautiful countryside, long beaches for even longer walks, cosy eating places and watering holes nearby. The Cottage is part of an old quinta, a word that came to us from Roman times. Julius Ceasar's legionaires' pension was a piece of land ... with the provision that a fifth part, a QUINTA parte, with the house and outbuildings, belonged to the wife and children. During school holidays Monte Serra often welcomes large 3-generation families wanting a huge place all to themselves. Inevitably the Cottage is then the refuge of the grand-parents who, whenever they want, can withdraw from the youngsters' turbulence. Today the quinta is left with only 30 acres of land but the old olive trees testify of the past in a still unspoiled landscape. See also advert #400917.

See the property on Google Earth 37º7’26”N and 7º44’45”W. The half-moon shape of the swimming pool is an umistakable marker. Monte Serra is located in the tiny hamlet of Estiramantens, some 10kms West of Tavira, 4kms West of Santo Estevão and 7kms North of Fuzeta. From this fishermen’s village a launch will take you across the lagoon to the long golden beaches on a wonderful sandy island called Armona.
