What a shame

There was wine in the fridges, and fresh fruit in a bowl in the kitchen. The library was great, lots of interesting and varied types of books. The surrounding area is being built up and it is a bit of trek to the beach, but not too incovenient with a car.
What a shame this villa, which has so much character and potential, was let down by its poorly maintained condition. I did not consider the garden as child friendly as there was a large pond at the side of the house which was a breeding ground for mosquitos. The garden was overgrown, especially the path to the tennis court which also had garden rubbish, old hoses, old bits of wood, old doors etc. The tennis court was poorly maintained, the net was in a state of disrepair.
The lounge, dining rooms and bedrooms were satisfactory, the beds firm and the pillows soft. The bathrooms, were not very clean, and the shower head in one was broken and had to be replaced. One of the bathrooms had a bad drain smell. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped and the dishwasher and washing machine worked well. However, I had to wash all crockery and cutlery before I could use any. The inside of the cupboards and the drawers were not very clean. Some of the cooking pans had grease and dried food on them and had to be washed (scrubbed) before use.
I saw no evidence of maid service and in the 10 days we were there no clean bedding or towels were provided. Although two clean table cloths were provided.
All in all disappointing, and as I had arranged for other members of my family to stay, somewhat embarrassing.
I would not recommend this villa in its present state.
