Photos and Description of this St Gervais les Bains holiday apartment A self-catering rental with stunning view of Mont Blanc.

The chalet is situated on a quiet road, and has a large garden. In Summer it is possible to access the mountain paths directly, in Winter the main ski area is 5 minutes away, and here are the ski school, the main lifts, ski hire, shops and restaurants. The chalet faces SE with spectacular views across the Mont Blanc massif. There are 2 units, an apartment sleeping 6/8, with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and sitting room with sofabed. The fully fitted kitchen, with dish-washer and washing machine, makes self-catering easy. From the private terrace you see the sun rise over the mountain and in the evening the sunset on the snows of Mont Blanc. The second unit is a romantic little one room chalet with a large balcony. It sleeps 2, has a separate shower and WC, and a kitchen corner. All heating is electric and controlled by the clients, and both units have TV, DVD and a Wifi connection is available. Children and dogs are welcome, and the garden is at the disposition of tenants.

Only an hour's drive from Geneva, the chalet is 15 minutes from Megève and 25 from Chamonix. One can drive through the Mont Blanc tunnel into Italy in 45 minutes and over the Col du Montet to Martigny in Switzerland in just over an hour. The ski area links with all of Megève and the lift pass also covers Les Contamines, the area is so extensive we are still discovering it. Many more resorts are within reach for a day out, including all of Chamonix. In the Summer it is equally interesting, with the walkers, climbers and tourists taking the railway up Mont Blanc to either view or conquer the heights, and the less active visiting the thermal baths for which the area has been famous for more than a century. The walking is superb, the ski lifts are open in the summer. St Gervais is a pretty, friendly town, while Megève is known as the St Tropez of the Alps, with wonderful shops. Annecy, one of the most beautiful old towns in France, is an hour's drive away.

Additional information about rental rates

  • The rates given apply to the main apartment. Once you have decided to rent you will be given a week's option, during which time you will be asked to send a deposit of 25% of the total charge. This can be paid in either euros, or sterling at the conversion which applies at the time. The balance will be due in euros on arrival. You will also be asked to deposit a cheque for 300 euros (or the equivalent in sterling) against accidental damage. This will be refunded at the end of your stay. The commune also applies a 'Taxe de séjour' to all rental properties. It is set at 0.75 euro per head per night for all persons over 13 years. It is collected at the end of the stay.
  • Optional extras include the hire of linen, towels etc. This is an optional extra for those who don't wish to bring extra luggage, and includes all bedlinen, towels tea towels, etc. The charge is 12 euros per head. The other extra is the end of stay cleaning charge, which is 50 euros for the apartment, and 25 euros for the studio.
  • There is no catering service for the apartment, but if you plan to arrive late it is sometimes possible to provide some basic provisions. There is no charge for this, it is by arrangement, and the receipts will be provided with the supplies.

  • Both bathrooms in the apartment have a toilet, shower enclosure with a sliding door, and spacious hand basin area. The hot water is continuous. The studio has a separate shower enclosure with a large surround, and then a separate WC and basin. All are fitted with extractor fans.

  • The first bedroom has a double bed, and an en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom has twin beds which can also be used as a large double. The third bedroom has bunk beds. There is a sofa which converts to a large double bed in the living room. The studio can be made up either as a large double or two single beds. All the bedrooms have reading lights next to the beds and all are provided with good storage space. There is a cot available on request.

Notes: There are french doors onto the terrace, which has a stunning view across the valley to the Mont Blanc massif. There is a large table outside, with eight chairs, (more available), and a huge parasol for the summer, when it is often ideal to take all three meals outside. The mountain situation means that there is always a breath of air even in the hottest summers, when down in the valleys it can be very still. There is no charge for the 24 hour internet access, but a supplement is charged for linen and towels. In the winter the radiators are controlled by the tenants, for maximum comfort. The car parking is just off the road, which is cleared and salted daily by the commune in case of snow or ice. The garden is totally available for children, and toboggans are provided in the winter for their use. There is no through traffic on the road, which leads directly into the woods, ideal for walkers with dogs.

Winter activities.: Within 5 minutes you can be at Le Bettex, where you find the ski schools, shops, ski hire and the main lift to access the ski areas of St Gervais, St Nicolas de Veroce, Megeve and Combloux. The comprehensive lift pass covers 445 Km of piste, and 102 lifts. It is very varied, with both north and south facing slopes, some wooded areas, and several big snowboarding parks. St Gervais itself is wonderful for beginners and intermediates, with particularly good facilities for teaching little children. However, the area is so large that it also provides lots of off piste opportunities for the advanced skiers. For the non skier there are opportunities for expeditions on snowshoes, and for tobogonning for the children, or if you are looking to relax you can spend the day being pampered at the thermal baths. In St Gervais there is an Olympic size ice rink for the energetic.

Summer Activities: St Gervais is a well established summer resort. Its situation at the foot of Mont Blanc makes it a centre for mountaineering activities of all kinds, and its rack and pinion railway takes visitors to the 'Eagles nest', within a short walk of the glacier and with wonderful views of the whole area. It is close enough to the beautiful old town of Annecy for a day visit, and within easy reach of Chamonix. The cable cars are all open in summer, including the Aiguille du Midi taking visitors up to 4000m.
