In the very heart of an unknown and unspoiled part of Tuscany where life still follows the pace of nature sits Paugnano, an authentic Tuscan farmhouse surrounded by stunning views and wild nature. Originally part of a convent, Paugnano is now an organic farm producing Pecorino cheese, olive oil and vegetables. The farmhouse offers its guests4 apartments and an independent barn, all restored with care and attention to detail. A large, rustic but well kept park offers an inviting 6x12m large swimming pool, some children games, and a magnificent view over the surrounding hills and the nearby hilltop village of Radicondoli. The house offers also a large kitchen/dining room with a huge fireplace with sofas where Giovanna, the owner, can produce simple, genuine, scrumptious meals on request. For the most daring guests Paugnano offers another room with a wood oven and large table. Free internet.

Giovanna is the largest unit at Paugnano. It sits in a lovely position of the Farm, 20 mts from the pool. This unit is ideal for families with children and elderly people, as it has easy access. The apartment is made up of 1 large double bedroom, a large twin bedroom and a single bedroom with a French bed. Giovanna rental unit accommodates easily 6 people. The front door leads you into the open living area, with fully equipped kitchen, large dining table and sofas. Outside stand a pergola with table, BBQ and chairs.

Radicondoli is a medieval hamlet near Siena. A perfect location to relax and visit art cities like Florence, San Gimignano, Piena, Volterra, the leaning tower of Pisa. Tuscany is the land of Art and Culture, home to Leonardo, Galileo, Michelangelo whose homes, museums and masterpieces you'll be able to admire on a day trip from Podere Calza. Il Palio di Siena, a thrilling traditional horse race, takes place in the centre of Siena every year in July and August. Tuscany is also famous for its red wines. On a day trip you can visit Chianti, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Scansano and why not Bolgheri. For those of you who love unspoilt nature, Maremma is but an hour away. The gorgeous Mediterranean coast is only 60 km away, with Castiglione della Pescaia, Punta Ala, Follonica, La Carbonaia. Perugia in Umbria is only 110 kms away.

I loved my stay in Paugnano. It was the mosted relaxing holiday I have ever been on. Whilst communication can be difficult as I had no Italian and English was scarce on the Farm we got through. It added to the adventure. You will not find people who are more friendly or helpfull as you will here. A car is an essential to a holiday here but that allows you the freedom to explore Tuscany which is amazing. One would never tire of site seeing here. The farm was beautifull the childern loved the freedom you had here. You could relax in the knowledge that they were in a very safe location. Definitely a place to go relax, unwind and enjoy lovely local food and drink.

We had an authentic Italian rustic week at Capanna; the house was simple, but immaculate and full of country charm. The two large bedrooms have comfortable beds and having twtastefull decorated shower rooms was wonderful. The kitchen was well equipped and we spent our evenings watching the sun go down whilst sitting on the veranda, which is just outside the living room door. From here, there is a wonderful view over the valley, towards Radacondoli.

Our hosts, Erica and Giovanna were extremely hospitable, and looked after us very well. If you go, you must try some of their farm produce, particularly the pecorino cheese, which was divine. Our two boys, aged 13 and 10 were very happy to spend time in the clean and beautifully situated swimming pool as me and my husband relaxed on the many comfy loungers. Radicondoli was just a short drive away and has a range of small local shops, including a fantastic baker, who supplied us with most of our needs. There's also a great pizza restaurant in Belle Cote.

We love sight seeing, and found the drive to Sienna took between 30 and 40 minutes. Florence was a bit further. However, nearer at hand are the wonderful towns of San Gimignano, Montalcino (home of the Brunello wine) and Montepulciano. We also visited the hot springs at Bagno Vignoni.

Altogether, Capanna is a wonderful place, peaceful and quite and the perfect place to relax and enjoy the view, food and wine.
