Our favorite leg of our journey.

We are a Canadian family of 4 and we travelled to Europe this summer (2009). During our stay we were lucky enough to stay at this beautiful home in this incredible region.
Our first destination after arriving on European soil was Montignac. We were a blank slate of what to expect. When we arrived at the driveway of this guesthouse, we were not disappointed. We are used to comfortable surroundings and these accommodations did not fall short. The children loved their airy bedroom, and the pool, and they could not get enough of our charming hosts and their children. My husband and I loved the local knowledge provided by our hosts and their recommendations were spot-on for restaurants, tours and shopping. The home was spotless, and provided everything we needed. Glen and Louis even had an exceptional bottle of regional wine waiting for us upon our arrival.
The amenities were perfect: laundry, pool, English TV, good kitchen, and 2 large bedrooms, with new comfortable beds and fluffy comforters.
The home is situated a short drive from Montignac, and the road is picturesque, quiet and safe.
This region of France is well known to the French, but I want to add some info for North Americans travelling here for the first time. Do not miss this part of the world. We are well versed in the beauty of Europe, but we have never experienced anything as pristine and authentic as the Dordogne and the surrounding countryside. You must bring a car so you can travel around to the local towns, chateaus and landmarks. You cannot miss kayaking down the river. The market in Montignac is fabulous, and if you see something you like there, do not hesitate to purchase it. I am still kicking myself over not buying more of the handmade soap made and sold by one of the locals. Furthermore, the handmade French table cloth I purchased for 40 Euro, was twice the price in Paris. And finally, you will not believe how good the food is. It does not matter where you sit down to eat in this Region. Expect to be served the freshest bread and the finest wine.
We are now home and settling into our day-to-day grind. However, everyday we take a few moments to reflect on our trip. There is a consensus in my family, Glen and Louise's guesthouse, Montignac and this region of France with all it has to offer, was our favourite leg of our 40 day tour of Europe. This is a very special place.
Thank you Glen and Louise for everything.
