Noto is a city in the Province of Syracuse, Sicily (Italy). Its located 32 km southwest of the city of Syracuse at the foot of the Iblean Mountains and gives its name to the surrounding valley, Val di Noto. In 2002 Noto and its church were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Noto is famous throughout the world for the extraordinary facility Baroque absolutely homogeneous and unitary because of space and time in which was the construction of the new city after the earthquake.
The plant of the city is set on a regular orthogonal pattern, marked by parallel axes which leads between the Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
The Church of San Francesco, by Vincenzo Sinatra, the Benedictine monastery and the adjoining Church of Santa Chiara, elliptical plan, designed by Rosario Gagliardi, introduce the central square of the city, a true baroque jewel, which enlarges the stairs leading to the scenic facade of the cathedral.
