Photos and Description of this Calvados holiday cottage Comfortable, traditional self-catering gite with friendly French neighbours

Excellent country location on edge of a small village. Only two houses in our short lane, surrounded by farms but not isolated, as there is easy access to good roads for exploring. Our French neighbours look after the cottage for us so that the hedges are trimmed and the grass cut before the arrival of our guests. Grass cutting is not guaranteed when M Dufay is away, however. Mme Dufay cleans the house and prepares the linen and towels for those who are hiring it. We are in the country but close to other villages and a lovely town called Falaise. Every time we go, they have made another improvement to the planting or roads or town square. Smashing people, very welcoming to guests and the shopping in Falaise itself is first class. Dining ranges from family to gastronomic, with budgets to suit all pockets & tastes. We particularly like restaurant L'Attache near the Super U supermarket and La Fine Fourchette,where you can have a superb 4 course menu for under £20 each.

Our gite is in the hamlet of Treprel, which is next to Pierrepont. It is located off a D road and set on the edge of the beautiful Suisse Normande, an area of outstanding natural beauty, for those who are exploring the area for the first time. There is a church with bells nearby together with horses and cows in the fields. For bird-lovers, we have been advised by guests that it's stunning. There is fishing, golf & calvados tasting in the locality. Falaise, which is 6 miles from Pierrepont, has all amenities and is well placed to visit the Normandy Landing Beaches, as well as explore this fascinating and welcoming part of France. In Falaise itself, there is a new Water Park, Castle, Churches and a Chateau. The shopping is excellent, with 3 supermarkets, gift shops and a number of restaurants, bars of cafes, each with their own particular French ambience.

  • The master bedroom is large with an traditional style ensuite shower room. This room has a wardrobe, bedside tables, a chest of drawers and a double bed with good quality bedding and mattress. The cot is also located in this room. The decor is powder blue and pale yellow, the feel being very restful. There are beautiful views from the two windows. Bedroom 3, off Bedroom 1, is compact and has bunk beds. The view is over the garden at the back. This makes up a complete bedroom suite, offering versatile accommodation for families, couples or friends who wish to have their privacy. Bedroom 2 is roomy and has an ensuite bathroom. It is pale peach with a decorative border. This also has a wardrobe, bedside tables, a comfortable bed with good quality bedding and mattress together with a lovely view from the window. The house is light and airy upstairs with a cosier, warmer feel downstairs, making it suitable for letting throughout the year. Linen & towel hire is available.

Notes: The living room is a cosy comfortable room with a wood burning stove as well as two radiators, so is ideal for out of season lets, as well as for during the summer months. There are two wine-coloured sofas, with an easy chair and foot-stool to match. We have satellite tv with free-view channels as well as an excellent vinyl record selection, which guests really seem to enjoy. There are plenty of videos to choose from. The garden is suitable for young children and there is plenty of parking.

Just Perfect

Myself and my new husband thought it was a really wonderful place. We stayed there for our honeymoon and it really could not have been better. Plenty of space and fresh air, the house was just perfect, with all you could want and need. It was charming and very welcoming. The house was great for newly weds like us, for friends who want to chill and chat and is also excellent for a family with space for children to run around, free use of bikes, table tennis and more... In fact we will be back with my children. The sounding area is great for exploring and loads to do or not what every takes your fancy. We loved it and have recommeded the house to every one we know. Thank you Zoe and Andy.

Very accurate description of the cottage, well-maintained, very welcoming.Everything in the cottage available ( including bikes), definitely a place to go if you have a car ( 10 km from shops)
