Villa Souda is a brand new luxury house, which has been planned, equipped and furnished to a very high standard. The villa is set in an enviable position between the villages of Kokkino Chorio and Plaka with fantastic views of Souda Bay and the White Mountains. The villa is within walking distance of a “secret” beach and caves.and just 5 minutes drive from Plaka with its antiquated village walks, wonderful welcoming tavernas, excellent food and local bars and mini markets The villa is within a stone walled plot with parking for at least 5 cars; the entrance is via sliding gates which can be locked for added privacy/security. To maximize the spectacular views, Villa Souda has a wonderful large pool terrace and two balcony’s, each overlooking the sea and panoramic unspoilt views of Souda Bay and surrounding natural Cretian countryside. The villa features: full air conditioning in all main rooms, 2 lounges, three bedrooms, three bath/shower rooms, a large private pool.

Villa Souda overlooks Souda bay and the Mediterranean Sea. It is situated on the unspoilt headland at Cape Drapanos - only 800 meters from a secluded “secret beach and magical caves”, wonderful scenic walks are a feature of the hideaway - with only one other villa within a square mile you can enjoys uninterrupted views across Cretan countryside to the Mediterranean sea. The villa enjoys real privacy - but is situated an a good road which is only a 5mins drive from Plaka and its antiquated village walks, wonderful welcoming tavernas, excellent food and local bars and mini markets and 10 mins from Almerida bay, beach, bars supermarkets and tavernas. Other nearby beauty spots include Kalives (20 mins), Georgioupolis (40 mins), Lake Kourna (60 mins) and the secluded taverna at Ombroglialos beach (20 mins). The beautiful port of Chania is approx. 25 km away and Chania airport is approx. 30 km, some 30 minutes drive. Heraklion airport, the second airport in Crete, is approx 100 mins drive.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Transport to and from Local Airports, in a 4 wheel spacious car with Driver, to and from Chania and Heraklion can be provided at a reasonable charge.
    A hire car of your choice can be booked for you to be collected and returned to the airport of your choice. Reasonable preferential rates for Villa Souda Guests.

    Availability and rates for year commencing Jan 1st 2010 have not yet been fixed, but anyone interested in bookings for that period can have them at the same rates as per 2009 - 2010 year
  • Booking Notes:
    It is essential to confirm availability with the owner before booking flights.
    To make a booking you can either call or email Geoff Brown - via the contact details in the contacts section. A non refundable 20% deposit will be necessary to secure your requested dates and this, + £100 bond, needs to be paid within 7 days of your booking notification. The total booking cost is to be paid, in full, at least 6 weeks prior to your departure.

    Directions, including a map showing the route from the airport and arrangements for picking up keys will be posted to you 2 weeks prior to your departure. Villa Souda will be available to you from 2.30 pm

    Cancellation details are as follows:
    From date of booking until 6 weeks before departure = 50% (+ deposit) will be required.
    Less than 6 weeks = 100% (including deposit) will be required
    Ensure you have holiday Insurance.
    Your £100 bond will be returned to you once you have vacated and the Villa has been inspected for damage.

Notes: An ideal, secure peaceful environment for a romantic secluded getaway, groups of adults wanting to relax and enjoy each other’s company and families with children. Security: The external terraces and pool area have been designed with railings and lockable gates so that parents can restrict access to other natural landscape areas and prevent children from entering them unsupervised.

Whatever the weather: The villa is centrally heated so making it a good choice for early or late season holidays when some heating may be required on chilly evenings.

Services: Maid service with a full linen change is provided twice a week at this villa. Coloured beach and pool towels are provided for each guest in addition to the bath and hand towels. Please note that the beach/pool towels are not changed as part of the maid service but can be laundered in the washing machine provided. A welcome pack of groceries is provided with the compliments of the owners.

From the first contact with Geoff when booking Villa Souda to leaving - it is hard to see how our holiday could have been improved. The standard of information and assistance provided by Geoff before departure and then by Kim when there was amazing - nothing was too much trouble.

The Villa itself is sheer luxury, the amenities, the location, the views - with everything you could think of provided by Geoff and his team (right down to travel adaptors in the plug sockets). The sunset views over Souda Bay are magical.

A car is needed but again Geoff and Kim make this so easy - ours was there at the Villa when we arrived and was collected from the Villa when we left. I would recommend the "collection" service from the Airport as we learnt so much from Gerry the driver about the local area.

Plaka is a beautiful village with lovely traditional Tavernas (I have to recommend Elpis - the menu is great !) and the various other villages are easily reached by a short car journey.

Supermarkets are conveniently located in Plaka and Almerida and are well stocked.

I can not recommend Villa Souda enough, perfect for a romantic break through to a familly holiday and we will be back next year, only difference being we'll be there for 2 weeks next time !.

Thanks to Geoff and Kim for making this a truely wonderful holiday.

An ideal base and/or retreat

Have just returned from a great week at Villa Souda. The villa itself and the surrounding area more than lived up to my expectations and we enjoyed many a quiet evening watching the sun set over the bay accompanied by the gentle tinkling of the goat bells. It is a truly beautiful location with a 'secret beach' within 10 minutes walk ideal for an early morning swim!


The owner goes to a lot of trouble to give useful information about the area and there is a file containing details of local trips. This is also emailed in advance so that you can plan your time if you wish. The whole booking process was made very easy by the owner for whom nothing was too much trouble, especially when we decided to change our holiday date! There is also back up from English caretakers who were ready to help when we locked ourselves out! This was reassuring to members of our party who had not done much foreign travel.

The villa itself is spacious and well equipped and beautifully cleaned and prepared for guests. The layout was good and there was space to be private if you wished.The pool and terrace area were ideal and many a happy hour was spent relaxing there. I was a little worried about the heat in August but there is a constant refreshing breeze and after a swim and a sit in the shade it was always possible to get cool. I would definitely recommend the villa to friends and think it was very good value for money.

As well as being a private retreat we found the villa to be a good base for trips further afield and drove without too much difficulty to Chania twice, Kissamos and Knossos. Yes I would say a car is essential and the driving somewhat challenging on occasions for someone who doesn't like heights! It is a couple of miles to the nearest supermarket and tavernas in Plaka. Mountain roads can be windy and vertiginous but Cretan drivers on the whole seemed accommodating and tolerant. Chania is a delightful town and we spent two half days there exploring the alley ways and restaurants. Our best day was probably the boat trip from Kissamos to Balos Bay ... a lagoon of turquoise water only accessible by boat or on foot. Absolutely stunning scenery.

I can thoroughly recommend Villa Souda and sincerely hope that I will find the time to go there again.

An excellent villa - all we could have hoped for

From all the photos and details send by the owner we were expecting a really wonderful villa in an excellent location.....and it was! It really was a beautiful villa, furnished to the highest degree and situated in the most ideal of locations. Beach, shops, villages, walks - everything was close at hand and the easy access into Almeryda, Plaka and Kokkino Chorio made everything so easy.
It is essential that you have a car - as nice as the walks are there are times when a car is essential. The owner arranged the car hire and it was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived.

The villa is stunning with a well-sized pool and fabulous poolside terrace which has uninterrupted views over magnificent natural countryside and Souda Bay. The evening barbecues were a real joy and pleasure.

The detailed information and photos sent by the owner, prior to our departure, meant that we had planned most of our excursions before we even got there. The useful information from the owner is truly excellent.

It was our first trip to Crete and Villa Souda - but it won't be our last! We are definitely going to return next year and we are strongly recommending the villa to our friends so that they too can experience the pleasure of this villa and its ideal location and facilities.

We were never short of somewhere to go..there are Tavernas a plenty - all situated within a reasonable drive and with wonderful atmosphere and excellent food....The Tavernas at Ombroglialos, Plaka and Vamos are a must!

Almeryda is a wonderful beach village -peaceful in the day but full of Greek music and the sound of chinking glasses as hundreds gather to dine in the many different beachfront tavernas. A real social evening as Brits, Swedes, Norwegians and Greeks exchange tales and drink the wonderful local wines

I can 100% recommend the accommodation and facilities of Villa Souda..it has everything you could ever want and a location that must be the any of many other villa owners

It is important to note that most guests do perceive the a car is essential and I am happy to arrange a hire car to be waiting guests arrival at the villa or one that can be collected and left at Chania or Heraklion.
I do send out extensive information about local amenities, tavernas and attractions and we will add to this as and when guests advise us of new discoveries.

Again I am really pleased to see that this family have already contacted me to reserve their two week stay next summer and they are even contemplating a week in December

An excellent holiday, great villa, fabulous location.

The villa has a wonderful location, secluded with stunning views over Souda Bay. Although secluded Plaka which has a supermarket and tavernas and bars is only a very short drive away, and just a little further is the seaside town of Almerida.

On arrival Kimberley and Mike were there to greet us and tell us how everything works. They'd stocked up on a few essentials as well, tea, coffee, milk, etc. There was a big bowl of fresh oranges too, which tasted amazing and great for the morning through the electric juicer.

We lived in the pool the majority of our stay as we couldn't get the children out once they'd got in, ages 4 and 7. The pool and surounding area sees the sun for the majority of the day and is a wonderful place to sit and soak it up.

The secret beach is a pebble beach and an easy walk away with beautiful blue waters. Another great beach to visit is Almerida as it is sandy and shallow for a long way out, the children loved it. It has lots of tavernas and bars too for the grown ups.

Geoff, the owner is very friendly too and will do all that he can to make sure your stay is an enjoyable one.

All in all a wonderful holiday and will definitely be returning in the future.
