Local Information:
Located just 10 minutes by car from the house is the delightful town of Salobrena. Salobrena has witnessed 6000 years of human history. Its Moorish castle was built in the 10th century. It sits atop a hill overlooking the old whitewashed town, The climb up to the castle can be tiring but it is a short walk and well worth the effort. From the top there are various viewpoints from where you can view the rugged landscape of the Sierra De Chapparal which cradles the town to the back ,while under the cliffs are orchards of sub tropical tress and sugarcane fields spreading out to the shoreline. The town nowadays is divided into two parts. Apart from the old town with the castle is a lively thriving pueblo with a range of shops, banks, bars and restaurants. Salobrena as a long beach and the paseo along the beach is wonderful walk in the evening where the local Spainards go for their evening stroll and chat. Granada:
Granada is approx. 30 minutes away by car and is a must for visitors. The Alhambra Palace is Spains most famous building and is every bit as interesting as the leaflets say. It is advised to book to visit the Alhambra, otherwise you may be disappointed. After your visit to the Alhambra you should go down the hill to the Alhambra Palace Hotel. Here on the terrace you can sip your well deserved drink as you watch over the city. Granada is a lively vibrant and classy city. Apart from the other sights which include the Albacyn, *gypsy quarter, where there are still some cave dwellers , ( There are the Moorish baths, the old cathederal and even the old town with its plethora of small winding streets and array of shops. There are many modern, classy shops in Granada and excellent restaurants and bars,
If you wan to ski in the morning and sunbathe in the afternoon this is possible with the Sierra Nevada ski area just over an hour away from the coast, and the beaches.
Lobres:

Lobres is a village and the house is just at the entrance to the village. There is a bar a few minutes walk from the house and the village has a bank, a supermarket , a town square and a small weekly market. Th ebread van comes around each morning with fresh bread for breakfast. The area around Lobres is one of orchards full of lemons, oranges, avocadoes, figs and chiramoyas, which is a very popular fruit in this part of Spain. There are markets in all the towns and villages, at least once a week. In the tourist office in Salobrena you can pick up magazines in different languages which give up to date information on local markets, bus times restaurants and bars and local events of the month.
Ski:
The Sierra Nevada ski area is Spain's largest ski area and boasts up to date equipment and ski lifts. They have a snow making machine, so no need to worry about a lack of snow here. There are many hotels and ski shops in the Sierra Nevada, and it is over an hour away by car. All ski equipment can be hired there on a daily basis and ski passes can be bought on a daily or season basis.
Golf:
The nearest golf course is at Los Moriscos which is at Motril Playa, just 10 minutes by car. Green fees are payable in the office and there is a new driving range where you can hone your skills. the golf course is 18 holes and is an interesting aand picturesuqe course where some of the holes run alongside the sea.
There are other golf courses at Santa Maria, about 40 minuts away on the road to Granada or Granada Golf course, so there is plenty of choice.
