South facing views: The terrace is beautifully situated looking towards the majestic Chateau of Vendoire, it is perfect for breakfast, shaded for lunch and ideally placed to watch the sun going down over the hills, at the end of a perfect day! There is a telephone installed to accept incoming calls, that can also be used for outgoing calls with the use of a standard phone card, easily purchased locally. There is a TV with DVD player for films situated on the mezzanine lounge area, as well as CD player.
Locality: There is a large modern supermarket at Villebois Lavalette approximately 7 miles away, catering for all your household needs but closer to hand in the charming village of Champagne Fontaine there is a boulangerie and epicerie which sells essential items. (If arriving late in the evening, arrangements can be made to provide a 'stop gap' shop .) Also in Champagne is one of the few remaining quaint rural bars, where time seems to have stood still. In Vendoire village a few minutes drive from Chez Mathieu the old school has been converted to a stylish restaurant, and at the Tourbieres de Vendoire, (a local nature reserve)again just minutes away is the Tourbieres restaurant, where diners can enjoy an excelllent meal whilst watching the fish jump and families of coypu swimming.
Circuits des ramparts: For the classic and vintage car enthusiasts, each September Angouleme hosts the renowned Circuit des Ramparts, when these amazing old cars scream around the ancient streets, emanating Monaco 50 years ago, and attracting visitors from all over the world.
