Great find - fab location will definately be back

Review Submitted: August 10, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Stayed this summer with my family - loved peaceful location yet only minutes to town with good choices for eating out - perfect base for visiting Lot & Dordogne area there was so much to do - twin boys (age 8) particularly loved canoeing & swimming in river, waterpark, climbing forest & dinosaur park. House very nicely decorated, the owners even left out toys/books for the boys which was nice touch. Will definately return.

A beautiful and charming cottage in a great area.

Review Submitted: July 4, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Went here with my wife and 3 kids, ages 5, 8 and 15. The teenager was reluctant to go but went in the end. The cottage is even better than what it looks like on the website. Its right beside the church, which is just like you would see ont the property programmes Location Location and those kind of things. Its a lot closer to Souillac than i thought only about a minutes drive down the road and its a nice walk if you didnt want to drive in. You pass over the bridge in the picture in the website with the Dordogne river running alongside Souillac. Be sure to just wander and get lost in the side streets as you find little shops, cafes and restaraunts. The house is ideal and is actually nice just to sit in the garden and relax. We found a lovely boulangerie in Souillac (in fact there everywhere) and we got fresh croissants there early each morning. My daughter enjoyed getting these with me and tried out her French and the locals are very helpful if you get stuck and they really appreciate when you make an effort. The owners were very helpful with a few questions we had before we left and made us welcome. The cottage was very clean and tidy and had all the usual appliances you need. Big supermarket in Souillac and its very cheap and everything you need and more is here. It shows you how much were paying her in the UK for groceries. My teenage daughter found a place in Souillac where you can rent kayaks and we spent a relaxing and fun filled afternoon canoeing our way down the Dordogne River. She loved it and was in her element. Lots of places to eat in Souillac each evening. The owners have a book in the house with all different places you can visit and activities. Theres something for everyone in it. We went on a tour to a massive underground cave which is a great day out for all ages. Theres also a waterpark in Souillac with a seperate kids and adults pool, and lots of slides and a playpark with bouncing castles. be sure to visit a town called Sarlat, its about 40 mins drive and it is a large town with a massive pedestrianised area with all cobblestoned streets and littered with some lovely shops and if you just want to relax theres a big square where you can sit and have a drink or lunch. We stayed for the evening and boy are you spoiled for choice for restaraunts. theres a bbq on the terrace in the cottage and it made for a great dinner idea as with a large family its nice to just relax in the evening for a change and just enjoy the cottage and surroundings.

A Perfectly placed getaway for Couples or Family

Anna Bananna Wicklow, Ireland
Review Submitted: July 3, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Stayed here for 4 nights at the end of June '09 with another couple. Exactly what it says on the tin.........and a whole lot MORE to be honest. Its perfectly situated in a small idyllic beautiful french village. Its got all you need nearby. In nearby Souillac village (2 mins) drive you have plenty of cafes, bakeries and a host of restaraunts and a large Supermarket. There is a Waterpark in Souillac and you can also rent canoes/kayaks and paddle down the Dordogne River with loads to see, Chateaus overlooking the Dordogne. If you rent a canoe/kayak you get FREE into the Waterpark which was great. As for the Cottage itself, its a charming old property with ALL the mod cons. Two large bedrooms and a loft room for any kids. Theres a very nice terrace with table, chairs, sunlounger, bbq, and if you have young kids, theres a swing too. The owners have a detailed folder explaining how to work the appliances just in case and also lots of leaflets on things to do & places to visit...and there are certainly lots of leaflets to choose from. We done a place called Indian Forest which is Zip Lining, Rope Climbing and loads of different challenges. We ended up staying here for 3 hours and it would be great for any age and theres different levels from young kids all the way to difficult challenges. Oh, the house is beside a church which you can go into for a look or mass if thats your thing. Its lovely to be woken in the sunshine to the sound of the Church Bells and their not annoying. theres also a small community hall here too. We only saw it open once and there was a small fete type sale, with cakes and local crafts and it provided a lovely village feel and the locals were very welcoming. Cant say enough about the many cafes and restaraunts in Souillac. Its so cheap to eat here and throughout the region. Wine is for next to nothing and its lovely to sit back and relax watching the sun go down and into the night on the terrace sipping wine. I was very suprised by this property and it made the holiday thoroughly enjoyable. its a very good price and i can happily say that were returning to this property with our kids as there is so much to do and its cheap to live which is the important part. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family and the owners were easy to deal with and helpful.

Would I stay here again?...Not if you paid me..

Sallbe Somerset
Review Submitted: July 1, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We have now arrived back from our stay at Lanzac cottage and unfortunatley it didn't turn out as we would have wanted.
Our main concern we had, was the location of the house, right next door to the village hall. Quite innocent you would think? However we were slightly worried when on the the first Wednesday afternoon there was a mobile disco van parked out side and then proceeded with very loud music for a few hours.

This was nothing though compared to the following Saturday night, when from 10.30pm, literally non stop until 4.30am in the morning this very loud music continued! My parents were staying with us & I felt so bad & embarrassed that they too had to suffer this noise.

When the following Saturday evening approached, again were we worried this same sort of event may happen. And to our horror it did!! This time it was a wedding party, the really loud music commenced at 10.30pm and this time went on even longer until 5.30am! Unbelievable!!

This obviously has caused us much stress, not to mention the lack of sleep. I am 6 months pregant and hoped this holiday would be wonderful, as it is our last one before the baby is born. It was not.
We didn't want to stay somewhere with a night club next door!!

We noticed in your rules - "to respect the neighbours and not to play any loud music in the garden." This somewhat makes a mockery of them!

Other complaints (not in any particular order):
1) The house has a noisy wood sanding factory behind it.
2) The house smelt & was damp.
3) The house is located close to a busy road, traffic can be heard in the garden.
4) There was not a single plant in the "garden".
5) The swings are dangerous to children; the supports were not fixed securely; if a child fell out of a swing they wouldn't have any skin left due to the gravel ground.
6) The equipment in the kitchen was very basic.
7) There were no extras provided e.g. salt, pepper, oil etc
8) The bathroom was shoddy
9) The bath towels were not absobent & small
10) The washing machine was mouldly around the rim.
11) There was no washing basket to take clothes to the line.
12) There was a hole in the side of the house where a small door had fallen in to the roof
13) There was no boulangerie or any shops within walking distance
14) Souillac the nearest town was not especially pleasant.
Owner's Response: As owners of the Cottage we are very surprised and disappointed by this review. It is indeed unfortunate that the reviewer was not able to provide a balanced report, and failed at any stage during their stay to highlight any of their dissatisfactions with agent or to ourselves.

Our belief is that the comments in the review are exaggerated and in some instances totally fabricated.

We have contacted other clients who have stayed at the Cottage and invited them to submit a review, and it is our belief that these reviews will provide a more accurate view point.

The Salle De Fete (parish hall) is a small building within the Church grounds adjacent to the Cottage and is used on occasional basis for local parish activities. It was indeed unfortunate that these guests experienced three events during their stay. In all of our time spent holidaying in the Cottage over the past four years we have never experienced activity of this level.

We would like to state that there is no factory in the village, the property is in no way damp, traffic noise is not an issue as the cottage is set on a small rural road, property is fully fitted out with all modern conveniences/appliances, swingset is fitted in accordance with manufacturers instructions.

If this review raises any queries please contact us & we will be happy to address any concerns.
