Hidden from view by a long drive through oak wood, a beautiful small chateau with round tower only 2 miles from medieval Monpazier. The chateau originates from the 14thC although most of the current building was built in the 17thC . There are medieval features inside such as the original wide stone staircase flanked by walls of large limestone blocks - guests will be pleased to know however that it also comes with all the comforts of modern living. The current owner oversaw the complete restoration of the property in a sympathetic manner, including installation of beautiful stone and wooden floors, a lift, new electrics and plumbing, restoration of the beamed ceilings, window frames and fireplaces. After spending the day by the new heated salt water filtration pool, guests can spend the evening in the tower either in the magnificent bar or the library. Chateau Merlin is only 3 km from the small town of Monpazier, which is one of the best preserved bastides in the Dordogne. The town was built by the English King Edward 1st in 1284 and still has an authentic town square with medieval houses and a covered market. There are numerous events in the summer months, ranging from a medieval fair and musical concerts to a bicycle race around the town walls. Monpazier has a market on Thursday mornings throughout the year which has been in continuous existence for many centuries. There are also numerous restaurants, gift shops & coffee bars, two convenience stores (Casino and Spa), as well as several butchers and bakers. Within close proximity to Monpazier there are attractions such as Chateau de Biron, Abbaye de Cadouin, horse riding and rope climbing. Also nearby are key attractions in the Dordogne Valley such as Sarlat, Chateau de Beynac, Chateau de Milandes, Domme, La Rocque-Gageac, Chateau de Monbazillac, Bergerac Old Town and more.

    Housekeeping/cleaning can be organised by prior arrangement at a cost of Euros 17 per hour.

    Grounds and pool will be maintained at no extra cost

Notes: Infants not welcome. GROUNDS The chateau is set in 17 hectares of lawn meadow and oak woodland so there is plenty of exploring to be done and space for children to play in. The new heated salt water filtration pool (46 x 23 ft) is set amongst wonderful Cahors stone terracing which is flush with the edge of the pool, in keeping with most up-to-date design techniques. The pool is 6ft deep at the deep end, which has a teak diving platform, and also has steps across the entire shallow end making it suitable for all ages and abilities. It has an automatic cover that rolls into an invisible underground storage area and can be lit at night with three interior pool lights. There is also wall lighting to illuminate the terrace and a teak outside dining table with 8 chairs so that meals can be enjoyed outside. Once one has eaten one’s fill, 4 teak sun loungers complete with cushions and a hammock provide respite, whilst 2 large parasols protect those who fall asleep in the sun!
