Nice has much to offer, the beaches, food, museums, art galleries, the night life, there is plenty to keep one occupied. Near the port and hilltop chateau is Vieux Nice, the old town, with its maze of narrow streets, many squares, little restaurants and fascinating shops. There is also the weekday flower and vegetable market in the Cours Saleya except on Mondays when it is the antiques market.
Within easy reach of Nice are many other resorts such as Antibes, Cannes, Menton and Monte Carlo and a trip into Italy to the border town of Ventimiglia is well worth a visit on a Friday for its extensive street market. Trips inland could include St Paul de Vence, Grasse and the single track rail trip into the mountains is one not to miss.
Nice is also a winter destination with the ski slopes only 45 minutes away.
