In addition there are a number of other high quality courses nearby, in the Rhone valley below or on the banks of Lac Leman. The best of these are at Montreux (half an hour) and about an hour's drive away you can take in the famous Crans-Sur-Sierre at Crans Montana
Skiing at Villars/Gryon:
On more than 120 km of trails, family skiing in Villars-Gryon is a real joy!
Villars/Gryon/Diablerets is a very varied ski area, offering something for everyone.The Resort is well known (and rightly so) for family friendly skiing. It is less well known for its off piste but the more adventurous will discover a well kept secret
There is free access for children under 9 years of age and the nearest beginners' slope at Les Chaux is just at the top of the local lift. Close by the Chalet, at the beautiful and ancient Refuge de Frience, there is a wonderful (and free) beginners and toboganning slope for those just getting used to the snow.
Walking/Mountain Biking/Climbing:
There are hundreds of kilometers of brilliantly marked walks and mountain biking trails
Hiking - The area is extremely well geared up to cater for walking, hiking. There are more than 300 km of marked trails
Mountain Biking - Villars-Gryon provides 130 km of well marked and maintained mountain bike trails, perfect for exercise, sport or fun rides. Various levels of difficulty are available over the 130 km of marked trails.
Some trails will lead you through pretty alpine villages, others (and these are favourites) will lead you down to the valley, to Bex or Lavey, where you will have the option to relax your muscles in the wellness-providing waters of the thermal baths or cycling through vineyards before catching the train back up the mountain.
Climbing - for the seriously adventurous the Miroir d'Argentine (visible from the Chalet and a shortish walk) is a European Mecca for climbers.
