The Old House:
Only 750 metres from Funchals Old Town, tucked away in a large garden, this beautifully restored Madeiran mansion and its modern annex provide you with an intimate retreat.
Offering only a small number of studios, the Hotel Residence Conde Carvalhal impresses with its delightful atmosphere. With an emphasis on attentive and personnel service, the staff at the hotel will go out of their way to ensure that your stay with them is a memorable one.
The public areas are tastefully furnished, and what you would expect to find in a traditional quinta. Afternoon tea can be taken in the lounge, on the sunny veranda or in the large garden, with its spectacular views over the town and sea. If you want something a little stronger, then you can help yourself to a drink from the honesty bar.
The New Wing:
All the studios are located in the modern annex and are spacious and comfortable.
The main entrance opens to the small reception area with the lift that leads to the underground car park and the first floor of the Conde Carvalhal. On the first floor there is a bright sitting area with sofa and armchairs, large flat screen cable TV and a selection of books.
There is also a 'Business Corner' with writing desk, table and a PC with free internet connection for guests.
If you don’t want to dine in the Quinta Conde Carvalhal Restaurant, with its tempting selection of traditional Madeiran dishes, or walk into the old town for a meal, you can prepare dinner in the well equipped kitchenette and maybe relax and watch a little TV. Alternatively you may prefer to lounge on the comfortable sofa in the Film/TV room, with its 1.65 metre screen, or maybe enjoy a game of chess with friends!
The Grounds:
The large mature gardens (580 square metres) feature meandering paths in local stone, large trees, pretty flower beds, a pond and fountain, and a traditional Madeiran 'Casa de Prazeres' (small garden conservatory) with sitting area, ideal for reading and relaxing.
In the far corner of the garden is a pergola area and has superb views of the old town and sea.
At the back of the Old House there is a chapel dating back to the beginning of the 19th century, and may be used by guests for worship.
Although there is not a swimming pool, the public swimming pool complex of Barreirinha (with sea access), is only 650 metres away and we are happy to provide complimentary entrance tickets.
