The almost impossibly picturesque little town of Collioure nestles in a spectacular setting where the Pyreneen mountains meet the Mediterranean Sea. In the sunniest part of France, just a few kilometres from Spain by a panoramic route, it retains its Catalan heritage. There are cafes, shops and restaurants, and a market twice a week, selling local produce. There are several little beaches, each with its own character. Enjoy the different views while you swim! Collioure has a fascinating history. Take a tour of the town and visit the centuries-old chateau and the church with its iconic bell-tower. Learn about Matisse and the Fauvists and browse in the studios of the artists who live here now. Take a stroll to the windmill on the hill and climb up to the fort. Taste the local wines and perhaps see something of the vendange. Thrill to the sight of the Cathar castles. Wander around the fortified town of Villefranche. Ride the Yellow Train high into the Pyrenees. And lots more...

Magical Collioure

Mo and Stu Limousin, France
Review Submitted: May 3, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Where to start?! Collioure is magical and is made even more so by this lovely house which never feels like sterile holiday accommodation, much more like a clean, well maintained ,warm, comfortable, welcoming home. We came by car from Limousin, and were given such a warm, friendly welcome by Margaret and her friends Audrey and Les, all of whom helped to carry our luggage from the car! The house is situated in an ideal spot, within easy walking distance of everything. My husband and I are what could only be described as elderly! ( 71 and 66) but we feel young at heart and loved our walks round the Chateau Royal, exploring the whole village, around each corner a more beautiful view and and loved the paintings, galleries ( only problem being curbing the urge to buy something in each!) and just sitting on the wall listening to the guitarist .We liked the fact that not only are there plenty of good restaurants to choose from, but several shops offering great food to take back home and eat - paella, pissaladiere ( onion and anchovy tart) and of course anchovies and olives to nibble with a glass of wine. We also took the opportunity, while down in that part of the world, to pop over the border to Barcelona - easily done in just over 2 hours. Oh! we would love to come back! and may well do so, and would definitely recommend the house.

Family Delight in Colliuore

Kilu Minneapolis, MN, USA
Review Submitted: April 30, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
This rental property more than met our expectations for a family get together in the beautiful village of Collioure. Margaret was an wonderfully gracious hostess who made us feel entirely at home and oriented us well to the house, and her home reflected her warmth.

We were a family party which included myself (the mom) and my two youngest children, ages 12 and 8, along with my young adult daughter and her boyfriend. We had another visitor for two nights, and everyone was accommodated beautifully.
The proximity to the beach was perfect for the two younger children, who could go on their own. Walking and sightseeing opportunities from the house are spectacular, and charming restaurants, grocery and the twice weekly public market are all within 10 minutes walk. We only needed to use our car to take a day-trip to Spain, two splendid features of the location.
We would go back in a heartbeat, and very much hope that we have the good fortune to make the trek from the US again. Thank you, Margaret, for maintaining more than vacation accommodations, but a gracious family vacation home in a lovely locale. Warm regards, Kimberley and Family

My romantic surprise

Review Submitted: April 20, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
I have just returned from a weeks holiday - this was arranged as a surprise romantic break by my gorgeous partner Dan. It was everything and more I could have wanted. Despite arriving in a shower of rain the house could not have been more welcoming. A pot of tea and a bottle of Rose' on offer, lovely flowers and a few supplies to get us started, it is such a cheerful & comfy home I was immediately relaxed. The house is in the most perfect position so close to everything it was so easy. The beds are deliciously comfortable, and everything was clean and tidy, with everything we could need. The top room is a superb place to sit and watch the sea and the wonderful views and colours that seem to wash over Collioure.
The walks were great, upto the Castle and Windmill, around the markets and streets just enjoying the scenary.
The restaurants are fabulous (and although the Euro rate is scary) they were all so friendly and offered divine food and good service. We did pack a few picnics for lunch and find spots to sit and read and enjoy some scrummy french bread & cheese!

I hope we go back there again next year...maybe it will be my surprise!
I think this rental was excellent, we have rented places all over France and this one would be in my top three.
I could wax lyrical all day about it..but alas I'm back at work.
Thank you to my lovely Dan if you read this as I loved every minute & thank you to the lovely Margaret who is wonderful lady and knows how to make a house a home.
