Stunning olive mill, built in 1764, sensitively restored & converted recently by the architect owner into a well appointed, spacious & comfortable house. Sleeps 11 people, perfect for 2 families, as there are 2 kitchens! Also possible to rent one wing as a garden apartment for 5 people. The large 12x6m. heated salt water pool is set within a delightful walled courtyard garden, with a selection of terraces & lawns for al-fresco eating, sunbathing, games & relaxing. Electric gates give access to the house, secure parking & the secluded half acre garden which includes a wildflower meadow. A peaceful location to get away from it all, yet only a couple of minutes' stroll into the centre of Lorgues with its famous market, shops & range of restaurants. The mill enjoys wonderful views over the village to the Maures mountains. This beautiful area is set between the mountains & the Mediterranean sea - perfect for touring. There are many historic villages & famous Provencal vineyards close by.

Our 5 bedroom converted olive mill provides spacious, well appointed accommodation - ideally suited to 2 families sharing, or a large group. The front door is in the courtyard, & the entrance hall leads into the smaller of the 2 living rooms. This has dining space, & sofas for 6. One is a sofa bed for an 11th person. The other delightful living room is very large, with dining for 12 people & ample sofas. A fully equipped kitchen is located in each living room. There is gas central heating throughout, & 2 log burning stoves. The olive press room is a games room with full sized ping-pong table. 4 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms are located in 1 wing on 2 floors. The 5th bedroom & bathroom overlook the courtyard. An entryphone allows remote control of the electric gates from within the house. Outside, a dining table with 12 chairs is situated close to the front door. 8 further chairs & 3 tables are on the terraces & lawn. On the terrace next to the heated pool are the loungers & sun umbrella.

Lorgues is a charming and friendly medieval village with many cafes, shops, bars and restaurants, and a vibrant market every Tuesday morning. It is situated in the heart of Provence about one hour's drive from the airports at Nice or Toulon-Hyeres, and is the 2nd most wooded region in France. Set between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea and superb for touring, there are many historic villages and famous Provencal vineyards close by. An easy drive brings you to the beaches and lively resorts at Sainte Maxime (complete with Aquapark), Saint Raphael, Port Grimaud and Saint Tropez. Inland amidst breathtaking scenery, the Gorges du Verdon - the French Grand Canyon - and Lake St Croix, the largest lake in Provence, offer swimming, walking, sailing, white water rafting, kayaking and windsurfing. All just 45 minutes away. Other local attractions include the Abbaye du Thoronet, the waterfall at Sillans de Cascade, and the village of Chateaudouble set in stunning mountain scenery.

  • High quality Duravit sanitary fittings and Hans Grohe taps and ladder chrome radiators are fitted in all the bathrooms, and mains pressure hot water provides excellent flow to the thermostatic showers and basins. Full width mirrors and glass shelves are fitted on one wall of 2 of the bathrooms. Walls are tiled with Provencal tiles and the floors tiled with tomettes. All bathrooms have mechanical extract ventilation to outside, which is operated by the light switch.

  • 4 of the 5 bedrooms are located in 2 wings one above the other. One wing is at entrance and courtyard level; the other is below it at street level. There is 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom and a bathroom in each wing, and the 5th bedroom is at garden level, with adjacent bathroom, and french doors, which open onto the courtyard. During the day, this bedroom can be turned into an additional sitting room, by folding up the sofa bed. An 11th person can sleep on a sofabed in the smaller of the 2 other living rooms, if required. Additionally, a cot is provided is provided in the twin bedroom for a baby. The thick stone walls provide good insulation against the heat of the summer sun, and the cold in winter. The bedrooms are simply furnished with good quality comfortable beds, plus adequate hanging and shelf space for clothes and possessions. Full length mirrors are provided in each wing.

Notes: The seating numbers listed for the living room and dining areas are for the both of the 2 living/dining rooms. The larger living room site 12 for dining and 8 on the sofas; and the smaller room seats 6 for dining, plus high chair & 6 on the sofas. In each kitchen area there are 2 stools at a breakfast area of the worktops. The satellite TV point, TV, DVD and Video players are located in the smaller living room, and the log burning stove is in the larger living room. There are terrestial TV points in the other living rooms. There is a second log-burning stove in the 5th bedroom. There are telephone points in all living rooms, and most bedrooms. Use of the telephone will be subject to a charge, but wifi broadband can be used free of charge. The pool is heated by a heat pump, which is set to maintain the pool at a steady temperature, and the pool is fitted with an electrically operated cover, and a robotic cleaner. The pool is maintained on a weekly basis to an extremely high standard.

Access to the house: The main auto route, the A8, is just 20 minutes away so Nice, Cannes, Aix en Provence, are all about an hour's drive. Monaco and Italy are an easy day's outing or you could take a trip to Corsica by ferry from Nice. Toulon-Hyeres, also an hour's drive to our house, is a hassle-free provincial airport served by Ryanair, or alternatively fly into Nice with a wide choice of airlines. The SNCF railway station at Les Arcs, which is 15 minutes from the house, provides fast connections to Paris (TGV 5 hours). If you prefer there is an overnight Motor rail service from Calais/Lille to Nice allowing you to bring your own car and let the train take the strain!

Lorgues facts: Lorgues is a town of just under 10,000 inhabitants, built up around a walled medieval core. Built on a south-facing hillside, ‘a village perché’, it is dominated by an enormous and imposing church – la Collégiale St. Martin – very visible, as you get close! The town dates from the 10th century, and has an intriguing history in relation to the Crusaders. The church was built in the 15th century. The narrow streets of the old village, enclosed by crumbling walls, and some beautiful towers, are worth exploring; especially as there are fountains and interesting old buildings dotted around. The main street, a rather grand tree lined boulevard, Boulevard Georges Clémenceau, is modelled on the Cours Mirabeau in Aix-en-Provence. Plenty of cafés, bars and restaurants there to relax in Our olive mill was one of 6 on this street, located to use the water from the open culvert(La Canal) which ran down the street.

Shopping and restaurants: Shopping: There are markets at Lorgues (Tues), Aups (Wed & Sat), & Salernes (Sun) and a very large Sunday Provencal market at Le Muy by the auto route (A8). The two nearest Carrefour hypermarkets are at Draguignan & Trans en Provence. Smaller supermarkets (Intermrche and Casino) are open on Sunday mornings in Lorgues, and most of the surrounding villages. Draguignan, the former capital of the Var, with its impressive county hall, provides a rich variety of individual shops, where you can buy clothes, handmade chocolates, pastries, and gifts. There is also a theatre, cinema, ten pin bowling and visiting funfairs. All the surrounding villages have a number of restaurants, serving primarily French cuisine. From the renowned Michelin-starred truffle restaurant Chez Bruno near Lorgues, to family-run French restaurants all offering 'le menu' or a la carte. For a change there are Chinese restaurants and pizza takeaways
