Although only 45 minutes from Valencia airport and 12km from the A7 motorway, Enguera is well off the beaten track. Bordered to the south by the mountain range that takes its name, the village forms the Southern boundary of the Macizo de Caroche, a forested limestone plateau of over 2,300 square kms, a nature reserve home to a large variety of wildlife from Bonelli's Eagles to Cabra Montés.
The massif is a natural aquifer scored by deep, cool canyons that provide some spectacular wild swimming sites.
Over 20 marked hiking routes are within easy distance of the village and there is excellent road and mountain biking in the area.
The area's prehistoric population left over 30 cave art sites, declared world heritage site by UNESCO.
The village itself is charming with a pop. of around 6000 and several dozen bars and restaurants.
