Inland the Basque countryside is stunning and full of charming villages such as Espelette, know for its 'piment' Espelette and St Jean Pied de Port where you can find high quality Basque linen. The whole area is rich in the Basque culture and there are a number of festivals and events throughout the year.
Wining & Dining:
There are numerous good restaurants to chose from at all price ranges. At the top end the best know are probably Relais de la Poste in Magescq with 2 Michelin stars, Le Cheval Blanc (Bayonne), La Table des Freres lbarboure (Bidart) and Sissinou (Biarritz) all with 1 Michelin star. There are two 3 star Michelin restaurants at San Sebastian - Akalare and Arzac and many, many great tapas places where you can eat excellently for very little money. Other quality establishments offering a more local experience include Le Hittau (St Vincent de Tyrosse), Ithurria (Ainhoa), Iparla (Anglet) and Ostalapia (Ahetze).
The local wines - Madiran, Irouleguy, Jurancon, Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh - are usually good quality and value for money.
