Photos and Description of this Pas-de-Calais holiday farmhouse Self-catering, child friendly rental property - newly modernised for 2009

The house is set in 1.5 acres, mostly orchard, but with a sweeping lawn, and views of the lakes below. To the south there are views right across the valley, whilst to the west, the sunset is completely uninterrupted. To the east lies the village of Contes with its bar, travelling baker / grocer. The grounds are fully enclosed, not overseen by any other houses and the patio offers plenty of room for sunbathing and al fresco dining. Le Byre is a three bedroom house all on one level with one family bathroom and one ensuite shower room. The Salon and Kitchen are large and set out to create different spaces for a large family or couples. The open fireplace is old and huge; the kitchen is new & has all modern conveniences. This rental is suitable for six people (three double bedrooms) but can accommodate up to eight adults and a lot of children. There is additional sleeping for either two in the salon, or four in the Garconier (“boys room”) plus two cot beds that may be set up in any room.

Less than an hour's drive from Calais, the house is situated in a quiet village between the two charming medieval towns of Montreuil-sur-Mer and Hesdin. Both have a good choice of restaurants and shops, and both have busy markets. The coast is 40 minutes drive away and you can choose from the bustle of Le Touquet or Berck and the beautiful sandy beaches of Sainte Cécile and Hardelot. Providing a great day out for the children, are the huge amusement park 'Bagatelle' at Berck, the Aqualud water park located on the beach in Le Touquet and the Dennlys Parc theme park. There are many golf courses in the area - La Mer and Le Foret Golf course are 30 minutes away. For those with an interest in history the battlefields and museums of Agincourt and the First World War are very close by - the whole area is steeped in history. Ancient fishing villages, miles of sandy beaches and dunes, forests, impressive war memorials, lively walled towns and chic resorts all on your doorstep.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Payment may be made in Sterling or Euros.
    Le Byre is available to rent throughout the year. You can make your stay as long or as short as you like.
    The above rental prices include beds made on arrival, bathroom towels and kitchen linen.
    Water & electricity are charged in addition and based upon actual consumption at the tariff fixed by EDF and Veolia alike.
    Housekeeping and cleaning services can be provided upon request. We can undertake an end of stay clean at an additional charge of £45. Just let us know your requirements when you book.
    All guests are requested to leave a £200 deposit on arrival against damage / breakages.
  • A prepayment of 25% of the rental cost is required at the time of booking - this secures your reservation.
    The remainder of 75% is to be paid 14 days prior to arrival along with £200 deposit against damage / breakages.
    The additional charges of cleaning and consumption are to be paid in euros on the day of departure to our check out representative.
    Once the changeover / clean has been completed you will be contacted and informed if there are any reasons why we believe the £200 deposit should not be returned.
  • We will accept pets but the £45 end of clean stay is compulsory and we will require to hold a deposit of 250 euros.
    During the low and mid seasons we will provide a pile of logs in the house free of charge (value of 15 euros). You can top this up using our wood store and we ask you to let us know at checkout how much has been used.

For total numbers greater then eight, we suggest you speak to the owners for a recommendation.

More Peace than a 60's hippy chill festival

What a lovely home, the whole place just oozes French/English chic (daddy says that bit). Its off the beaten track but close enough for my parents to take us to the beach most days. The whole place is super safe, and super fun to run about in. The garden is big enough to fly a kite in. We had a bril time and we are 7 and 4 years. My folks said they had a blast too. They liked being able to sleep in late while we ran about the place all by ourselves. Go there. From Louis and Polly

Tranquility at its best!

Our family stayed at this property over the New Year holiday weekend and loved it! The grounds were expansive and allowed our 2 and a half year olds a lot of room to run free. The house was lovely - you can tell the owners put a lot of thought into the refurbishment so all modern conveniences were at hand, especially appreciated when young children are around . The central fireplace was a joy - a real centerpiece that kept us all warm and cosy during our relaxing evenings. We loved the area - very close drive to the local markets which overflowed with local produce - Montreuil especially has a wonderful square and one of the best fromageries I've been to. We discovered some lovely local restaurants where the food was fantastic, the hosts gracious and possessed wine lists that had us venturing into new territory. We also took a trip to Le Touquet (just over an hours drive) - while golf wasn't an option for us at the time, the seafood restaurants more than made up for the lack of fairway activity. The boardwalk is lovely and the kids enjoyed running along the beach after a healthy bowl of soupe de poisson. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would absolutely consider renting the house again - and we will strive for the summer to get the most of the outdoor patio and the sun! The drive from London is just perfect with small children - taking the chunnel, it took about 4 hours door to door - which makes a long weekend absolutey doable (and of course, stocking up on french wine just adds to the perks!).
