An imposing family seat set in 1300 acres of walled parkland, the castle was built in the 1400s, and although parts of it have been destroyed by fire over the centuries, most of the original features and contents have remained intact. This magnificent and historic house lies between the Angus coastline and gently rolling glens giving the house and its environs a feeling of peace and tranquility. The castle comfortably sleeps up to 20 in two private and lavish apartments which occupy most of the 2nd floor. The castle tower and the castle apartment are available for exclusive use rental together or separately. The castle and surrounding area offer much scope for outdoor pursuits. Many guests find they do not need to stray beyond the extensive grounds, embarking on long walks through parkland, open countryside and woodlands. All the rooms offer panoramic views over the formal gardens and deer park and the castle also runs an in-hand farming enterprise of 3,700 acres, a forestry department managing 2,500 acres of trees and a fish farm producing 190 tonnes of rainbow trout each year. The castle and surrounding area offer much scope for outdoor pursuits. Many guests find they do not need to stray beyond the extensive grounds, embarking on long walks through parkland, open countryside and woodlands dotted with follies. As well as pursuing traditional Scottish sporting activities such as shooting and fishing within the castle estate there are other activities within easy reach. Several golf courses suitable for all levels are located within twenty minutes of the castle. The region offers stunning scenery and there are also plentiful opportunities for rambling, wildlife tracking and bird watching.

  • The castle has been recently renovated to a high standard and is very welcoming and cosy despite its size. The rental accommodation is divided into 2 luxury flats: The Tower: This grand apartment consists of some of the principal castle chambers, luxuriously decorated and furnished with family heirlooms. It offers 5 en suite bedrooms (3 double bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms). There is also a sitting room, dining room seating 10, a fully furnished kitchen with larder and a laundry room with washing, drying machine. The Apartment:The bedrooms are not quite as large as those in the Tower but the reception rooms are just as roomy and elegant. There are bedrooms (2 double, 2 twin and 1 single) and also a TV room which can be used as another single bedroom. There are 4 bathrooms, a sitting room with an open log fireplace, a spacious dining room that can seat 12 people, a kitchen and a storage room and hall downstairs. 2 additional bedrooms, sleeping 4, can be made available on request.
