Tranquil Location off the Beaten Track

Stuart and Maya were friendly and communicative even before we set out on our drive from Southern England to Challand-Saint-Victor. Stuart's directions were spot-on, and we found the apartment without a problem. Stuart was on hand to meet us and show us around, and during our stay, he and Maya were always available for help, advice and directions, yet not in the least intrusive. The apartment was exactly as described, immaculately clean and well-presented. All fixtures and fittings worked and the apartment was fitted out with everything that could reasonably be required. Best of all, the apartment features two balconies with different aspects and absolutely stunning views from each. The village is quiet and rural, but good local shops are within easy walking distance, and we found all that we needed for our one-week holiday without needing to drive very far. Stuart and Maya gave us details of a few restaurants in the vicinity, and we found the food to be good and the staff hospitable. Although we mainly stayed in the local area, walking every day, we did visit the market in Verres, just a few kilometres down in the valley, and further up the valley is the Roman town of Aosta, the regional capital and not to be missed. The area is Alpine in character, with breathtaking views everywhere and the remains of a unique agricultural lifestyle once typical of this autonomous region (formerly a part of Savoy). Up in the hills, the roads can be steep and narrow in places, but there is relatively little traffic around, and we found other road users to be careful and patient. Overall, during our time in the area, we found nothing to dislike, and would thoroughly recommend this apartment (and its owners) to active tourists seeking a tranquil break off the beaten track.
