Our house stands alone in rolling countryside, south-facing over a wooded valley, 20 minutes from the resorts and sandy beaches of the west coast of Normandy. Renovation was completed in 2008. There are five comfortable bedrooms, a bathroom, shower room, and two separate toilets. A fitted kitchen helps to make cooking easier, and the oak-beamed sitting room has a wood stove that powers radiators for central heating in the colder months. There is Wifi internet access at the house. The lawned garden offers views over the valley, and a wealth of walks radiate from the house - to the hilltop village of Montpinchon, the château at Cerisy la Salle, and many more (occasional weekend walkers are the only passers-by). Several cycles are available for exploring – along the coast, to the ruined abbey at Hambye, etc. The house is presented with small children in mind, including window bars for upper windows. All nationalities most welcome.

Car: necessary
The village of Cerisy la Salle (5 minutes by car,) has a 17th century château, bank, chemist, post office, shops and tourist office. Coutances, a fine Normandy hill town with cathedral, sights and supermarkets, is 15 minutes away. The best seaside, at Agon Coutainville, is a 25 minute drive – a bourgeois resort, with 3 miles of sandy beach and promenade, cafes and restaurants, but not crowded. Some of France’s favourite sights – Bayeux (tapestry and cathedral), Mont St Michel (monastery in the sea) and St Malo (walled city) – are about 1 hour distant. The Normandy landing beaches start from Bayeux. Day trips to Jersey are via Granville, a bustling port-and-resort town with night life, shopping and grand clifftop house where Christian Dior grew up. Granville also has an 18-hole golf course, open to holidaymakers (please, contact owner for links with more info). Summer-long culture includes the international music festival at Lessay Abbey, village fêtes and fireworks, and guided walks.

  • We offer £100 discount for two-week bookings at high season, so you will pay £1300 instead of £1400 for 14 days from 11 July to 4 September, 2009
  • A 20% deposit is payable to confirm the booking. The balance (80%) is payable six weeks before arrival. We also ask £100 deposit for breakages (only refers to major items, as per inventory - not broken glasses, etc.) returnable in 1 week after end of stay.
  • The wood stove powers central heating in the winter and you will need more hot water at this time, so we ask £50 to cover fuel costs in the colder months.

Getting there: Coming from UK, the ferry ports at Cherbourg and Caen are each 60-80 minutes from the house, Le Havre is two hours journey and Dieppe is three hours. The ferry service via Le Havre and Dieppe is significantly cheaper than via Cherbourg and Caen, in our experience. Dinard Airport is about 90 minutes away. Ryanair flies there from Stanstead and East Midlands (sometimes from other UK airports - check their site). Paris is about 3.5 hours by car (nearly all motorway).

It’s rare you find such a spacious abode that can fit 2 large families or even an extended family in comfort and with all the facilities needed for a quiet rural retreat. We loved this place; it was peaceful and secluded with plenty of fabulous walks and beautiful scenery on the doorstep. The local village was charming and sleepy, but there was plenty to do in the surrounding area. The beach which was sandy and empty and stretched for miles upon miles, only a quick 30 mins in the car. There was lots to see if you were happy to travel further a field. This is a perfect place for friends and family who have younger children and wish to take it easy and soak up the ambience of rural France. The owner is incredibly helpful and accommodating. We’d certainly go again.
