Photos and Description of this Canillas de Aceituno holiday villa 2 bedroom self-catering rental located on the edge of the Tejeda National Park

Las Colinas is a single storey villa, with high vaulted ceilings, wooden doors and window shutters located 2kms from the village of Canillas de Aceituno. It has two good sized bedrooms, one double and one twin. The bathroom has a full-size bath, wash basin and separate shower cubicle. The kitchen which has been recently updated is fully fitted. There is a large lounge/diner with a wood burning stove and dining for 4 people. The outside terrace, including a dining area and swimming pool, has superb views over Lake Vinuela with a backdrop of the Sierra Tejada mountains. There are plenty of loungers around the pool, which is fenced and gated, and measures 10m x 6m. The dining area includes a brick built BBQ and drinks fridge. The villa is supplied with water and electricity and bottled gas for cooking. The lounge and master bedroom each have ceiling fans. The owner lives next door and is on hand to assist you. She has cats and dogs, so you must be an animal lover.

Canillas de Aceituno lies 50 kms east of Malaga and 15 kms from the beaches at Torre del Mar/Caleta de Velez and has a population of 2,800. The village is situated on the scenic Mudejar Route, at 645 metres in the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda mountain range. Walkers and climbers will love La Maroma, the highest mountain in Axarquia at 2080m, which rises up from Canillas making the village an ideal base for walking and exploring. There are many shops in the village, including two banks, post office, art gallery, various mini supermarkets, butcher, pharmacy and a DIY shop. For eating in the village, there is a choice of 3 restaurants; the Bodega, La Sociedad and Brensons, run by an English couple, serving Mediterranean dishes. There is also a good choice of bars for tapas and drinks. In addition to the beaches, Lake Vinuela is a short drive away, providing plenty of activities in and around the lake

We booked this property on the basis that it was safe for my 2 year old. The property is indeed in the back of beyond and tricky to get to with a normal car. The pool is listed as gated - it is NOT gated from the part of the villa that you rent and there is not ample outdoor space, though it looks OK in the pictures. The pool/terrace area was surrounded by very low walls with high drops at the other side, 6-10feet. We had to leave as could not possible be comfortable in our child's safety. The property did look quite nice but main points - not gated, not child friendly and suggest definately also not elderly/infirm friendly. Suitable for walkers and adventure seekers I would suggest.
