Our Summer Holiday In Le Peyruzel

Joan, Tony, Joe and Lucy Wexford, Ireland.
Review Submitted: October 23, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Experiencing a very wet summer in Ireland we decided to book a last minute holiday to France in late July, 2009. We were extremely fortunate to come across Letitia and Roy's advertisement for their Perigordian cottage where we stayed for two terrific weeks. The location is perfect for all activities - walking, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing and sightseeing. Terrific maps and brochures on bike hire are available in the tourist office in the very picturesque town of Daglan. On arrival Letitia and Roy welcomed us with open arms to their beautifully restored cottage and were only too glad to make our holiday memorable. The cottage itself offered all the comforts of a home with stunning views of the valley below and of the Chateau Le Peyruzel. Being an active and energetic family with two teenagers we found the area provided us with a huge amount of activities nearby to entertain us. Warm sunny days were spent canoeing on and swimming in the Dordogne river, cycling on the mountain trails and visiting the local markets in Domme, Sarlat, Daglan and many more. Evenings were spent enjoying the terrific local cuisine in nearby towns of Daglan, Castlenaud, Cenac and Sarlat. This is an area we hope to revisit and would love to stay in Letitia and Roy's beautiful cottage again as it provided us with everything we wanted from a holiday. Thank you very much Letitia and Roy for your warm hospitality and kindness and we hope to see you both again soon in the near future.

Best wishes,
Joan, Tony, Joe and Lucy.

My idea of France at its best.

Di&T Derby, England
Review Submitted: September 29, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
For me, this was the best holiday I have had in France in the last 20 years, mainly because Roy and Letitia were so helpful and so welcoming, but also because of the excellent accommodation and the area. For anyone who doesn't speak good French, it's always handy to have a bi-lingual owner close by to help with problems; Roy and Letitia are able to do this and do it with great charm.
The village of Peyruzel is a sleepy, hilltop time-warp, dominated by the ancient English chateau which is across the road from the cottage. The cottage windows overlook the rooftops of properties lower down the hill and out across the valley - an excellent prospect in the early morning when the mists sit like quicksilver in the lowest areas and the sun warms the heavily wooded slopes of the valley sides. In the evening, the setting sun tinges the opposite slopes with the colours of Autumn.
The sleepy atmosphere of the village is occasionally broken by a passing vehicle, though the quiet soon returns leaving the desire to nod in the warmth almost overwhelming. Opposite the cottage terrace is the wall of the chateau garden which is overhung with fig, walnut and hazelnut trees. The terrace itself is decorated with flower tubs.
The small town of Daglan, a five minute drive down into the valley, is very pretty and has a small supermarket that can offer all of the basic requirements; a slightly longer drive will take you to Cenac (also pretty) where there is a larger supermarket, restaurants, and other shops that are mainly set up for tourists.
This is a beautiful area. The Dordogne river runs close by with lots of opportunities for canoeing and sight-seeing river trips. The mediaeval quarter of Sarlat is superb - one of the best I have seen in France.
I spent two very comfortable and happy weeks here in September when the weather was still very warm, the position of the cottage on the top of the hill ensuring a pleasant breeze. The kitchen is well equipped and all of the sheets/towels etc are of good quality. The cottage was clean and exactly what I had expected from the photographs.
Roy and Letitia made the holiday by being such excellent hosts wihout being in any way intrusive. If you're interested, Roy will be pleased to show you the barn development, which is really quite stunning.
Would I go again? Yes. Would I recommend it to others? Yes. Did my wife and our visitors like the cottage? Yes.
Thanks for a marvellous holiday.

Had a wonderful holiday at this beautiful cottage, opposite the medieval chateau of Le Peyruzel. Letitia and Roy were very friendly and helpful and took great pains to make us welcome. The cottage is very clean and well maintained and the kitchen is very well equipped with a wonderful view from the window. The bedrooms with en suite are delightful and very comfortable. This is a great area for sightseeing with many hilltop chateaux. There are lots of markets and the medieval town of Sarlat is well worth visiting and is no great distance from the cottage. The Dordogne river is in easy access and the sail up and down the river is well worth making. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage to relatives and friends.

Americans in Le Peyruzel

Review Submitted: August 17, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Dear Letitia and Roy,
Ron and I want to tell you again how much we enjoyed our stay at your lovely house in Le Peyruzel.
From our first warm meeting with you to our last farewell you could not have been more gracious or helpful. Your house is perfect in so many ways. The views of the village below are incredible. I love the rooftop view out the kitchen window which reminds me of Mary Poppins. The wine and first night grocery items were indicative of the care and attention to detail you two give to your guests. The kitchen was well stocked with all the essentials we needed. The bedrooms were so very comfortable and we loved having our own private bathroom. Mornings outside on your patio area were a fun way to have coffee and go over our maps.
Your house was such a convenient location for our week of activities--the canoe trip , visiting caves, wine tasting, strolling the market and visiting Domme. Your place was our favorite of all the country inns we stayed in during out visit to France. We will certainly recommend your house to everyone.
Sincerely,
Nicki

Le Peyruzel Cottage

Review Submitted: August 6, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We spent 3 weeks driving around France and this was our favorite place to stay. Roy and Letitia greeted us as though we were old friends and had left a welcome bottle of wine for us. Their cottage sits above Daglan with a beautiful view of the town down the mountain from your bedroom window. We enjoyed our coffee and breakfast outdoors on their table in the mornings. The cottage has all the modern conveniences but maintains the historic stone common to the area. You will love it here. Cenac is close by with a fun market to explore. Domme is close as well and is a beautiful hill town with gorgeous valley views and fun "tourist" stores. We enjoyed canoeing on the river past castles and beautiful towns such as Castlenaud and Beynac. We had a unique tour of a cave with Cro Magnon drawings. Daglan has a wonderful small restaurant for a special evening out. We were sad to leave as there is so much to see and do in the area. The cottage was perfect for all the activities available. We are from California but would love to return to Le Peyruzel one day.
