Turre and Surrounding Area:
Turre is situated just inland from Mojacar on the south-east coast of Spain. This region boasts around 350 days of sunshine a year and enjoys a fantastic climate with hot summer temperatures and mild winter weather with plenty of sunshine. Just a few kilometres from Turre is Mojacar Pueblo, a picturesque moorish village built high on a hillside with whitewashed houses, a honeycomb of winding streets and breathtaking views. Less than 10 minutes from Turre are the sandy beaches of Mojacar Playa, a lively resort with many shops, beach bars & restaurants along the seafront. Just north of Mojacar is Garrucha, a working fishing port with a lovely beach; very Spanish and famous for its excellent fish restaurants. To get a real flavour of the area just drive along the coastline, where you will be find many secluded bays, or inland through the mountain villages. Most of the local towns provide open markets where you can browse for souvenirs and bargain buys.
Sightseeing and Shopping:
Not to be missed is the spectacular drive along the coast road from Mojacar to Carboneras (though not for the fainthearted), as it winds its way up and then descends in a switchback of bends revealing wonderful views at every turn. Visit Mini-Hollywood in Tabernas where the old film sets remain from the spaghetti western era. Mock 'shoot-outs' are played out for visitors. A trip to Granada and the famous Alhambra Palace is a must, as are the Sierra Nevada mountains. The nature reserve of Cabo de Gata is dedicated to both land and marine areas. The villages of San Jose and Agua Amarga are delightful, as are the many small secret coves to be found. Almeria city is very interesting to explore and also good for shopping, with a wide variety of shops, restaurants and tapas bars. Another excellent shopping mall can be found at Roquetas de Mar.
