Rethymnon holiday villa: Kavros

Kavros, Georgioupoli, Rethymno and Chania: The villa is located in Kavros, a small local village with some bars and tavernas. The stream near the beaches are filled with turtles which are always on the look out for a morsel. Georgioupoli, a larger center, is a 5 minute drive from the villa (taxi or car) and has a number of lively bars with music and a variety of sport on TV (sky sports available). There are many restaurants and tavernas as well as a variety of shopping. There is a bustling beach and hotels by the sea front. There is a small harbour which local fisherman operate from. Rethymno is located about 12 miles form Kavros and is a much larger town. The night life is vibrant with many tavernas and pubs and the odd disco, if you so fancy. The many shops in this town are opened until late into the evening. The beach is very well frequented and busy all day. This is a lively center at all times. Chania is located about 30 miles from the villa, has a lovely marina, and is all extremely vibrant at all times. Worth a visit.

Kournas Lake: A real gem!! Its beauty has to be seen to behold. Photos do this idyllic spot no justice. Buried amongst tall and craggy mountains, shimmering turquoise in the hot Cretan sun - a must for all. Located just 4 miles form the villa and accessed by car, taxi, local road train or for the more active, by foot. The lake is home to turtles, a variety of fish and a gaggle of curious geese. Swim in the clear, fresh waters or board a pedalo and explore this vast expanse of water. Canoes are also available. Snorkelling is recommended. The shore is lined with a number of tavernas serving food and drink all day long. The tavernas provide an elevated view of this magnificent lake, and I doubt whether there ia a better panoramic location to view whilst you enjoy a long fresh drink and a delicious meal in the welcome shade. We also recommend you visit the bar and restaurants located at the top of the mountain well above the lake as the view is just too magnificent to describe.

Other Activities: A short distance from the villa Kournas Lake provides canoing and pedalo facilities. Area is also suitable for jogging.
