Lovely 4 bedroom renovated stone farmhouse in an idyllic rural setting in the hills of northern Portugal, within easy reach of Porto airport. A place to get away from it all and completely unwind, being as lazy or as active as you want to be. Ideal for those who love the countryside, authentic areas and the great outdoors - hills and forests on your doorstep, 20 minutes to the scenic river Minho on the border with Spain, and 25 minutes to beautiful blue-flag, white-sand beaches. Large secluded garden on terraces with pool, barbecue area and magnificent views of the valley and surrounding hills. Spacious and fully-equipped open-plan kitchen/living room. . Central-heating in all rooms, plus two log fireplaces. Sleeps 9, ideal for families and groups. Table football,rowing machine and exercise bicycle in the old winery where there is also a bar and extra dish washer,this room leads out onto BBQ area with outside dining table.

We had a great holiday in this lovely villa in a stunning location.

The villa was spotless and well presented on our arrival. We also found the villa to be very well equipped, and had everything that we needed. The owners had provided us with some bread, cheese and ham etc that was very welcome after our journey. There were 6 adults in our group and there was ample room for us all! All the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and well furnished. The communal areas were able to easily accommodate us, with plenty of chairs and table space. The provision of a dishwasher, and a washing machine, were really useful.

The villa is easily accessible from Porto via the motorway and took us approximately 2hrs from collecting our car at the airport to arriving at the villa (which was easily found using the owners directions). After leaving the motorway, ensure to take care on the roads leading to the villa - it's a winding road with lovely views, but not to be done in a hurry! A car is essential in this area, though it is possible to walk down the hill to Covas where there are shops selling essentials and a couple of cafes. The nearest supermarket is a short car ride away.

We spent much of our week exploring the local region - the wonderful national park and the beaches along the coast. The villa was in a quiet setting, which was ideal for relaxing with a drink and a good book by the pool. The owners have an amazing library of English language books in the villa so we weren't short of things to read! We had several BBQs at the villa throughout our stay, but we also had some good meals out and didn't find the region to be expensive. I'm sure this won't be the last time that we visit this lovely place.
Owner's Response: When we set up the house for renting out for holidays we wanted to have a place that would appeal to people of all ages, have a well equiped kitchen,baby and toddler equipment and fenced in garden and pool area.
We have achieved that and everybody,without exception, has really loved the house, this is very pleasing for us and we look forward to seeing past guests come again.

Lovely house

This is a beautiful, clean and spacious house in a lovely area of Portugal. The pool is perfect and the grounds are nicely landscaped. The house is spacious, with a nice sized combination kitchen, dining living area, and it is well suited for a large or small group (three levels, multiple bathrooms and two balconies, in addition to outdoor area). The house is located in a valley that requires driving up and down winding roads, but it still only takes about 20 minutes to get to decent food shopping and the highway. It is very quiet and peaceful. There are beaches and lots of interesting small towns to explore both in Portugal and Spain. The weather was a bit cloudy and we had some rain when we were there in June 2009, but apparently it is usually sunnier at that time of year. In terms of temperature, it was perfect. The hosts, Adria and Roy, live just down the road, and are incredibly friendly and helpful. I definitely would recommend it to someone looking for a relaxing holiday, a bit off the beaten track.

I spent a week at the villa with friends and it was glorious. The setting is difficult to beat, the view from the terrace and the swimming pool is rural loveliness! Whilst being in the hills away from it all, it's also close enough to go to the beach and nearby towns easily. It was the perfect spot for a little R&R for a rather frazzled me!
The house itself is equipped with everything you could possibly hope for, from BBQ to books to balls! We had young children in the group and many things had been planned with them in mind, both in terms of facilities and in terms of safety. We had great weather and the house was always cool and inviting (with the balcony from the lounge overlooking the valley - perfect for a glass of wine!) but I can imagine is also a snug retreat in winter months too.
I will definitely be returning.
