Well away from the usual tourist routes, the historic market town of Sineu is full of architectural and cultural gems, and has a vibrant local community. It was the old Roman capital and home to the Mallorcan kings. The seven-centuries-old weekly market (one of the few remaining markets with livestock) still takes place every Wednesday. Open countryside is only a few minutes walk away, with rolling hills and a myriad of easily accessible tracks and country lanes passing through beautiful rural landscapes. Close by is the local open-air swimming pool (open June-October), with lawns, parasols and sun-loungers, and also a popular restaurant and bar, tennis courts, and a velodrome.
Sineu is easily accessible by inexpensive public transport (so no need for a hire car or expensive taxis), and Mallorca’s glittering capital Palma, is only a 20-mile train journey away.
