Local Information:
This part of the Silver Coast is easily accessible, and the house is centrally located to visit World Heritage Sites such as Tomar, Alcabaca, Batalha and Sintra. Obidos has numerous restaurants and bars to whet your appetite, ranging in cost and variety and is famous for its local drink Ginga, which is served in chocolate cups! There is always something to do in Obidos, numerous festivals and concerts are held within the city throughout the year. A large Supermarket, municipal swimming pool and leisure facilities are within a 2 minute drive as is free Internet access. There are several other supermarkets in Caldas da Rainha. within Obidos, there is a Pharmacy, several banks, and local grocery stores offering fresh daily bread and supplies. Try a Pastais de Nata (a kind of custard tart) with a coffee for a mid morning treat. There is a daily flower and produce market in Caldas, and a weekly market. We have a favourite Sunday market in Pateias, up the coast towards Sao Pedro de Moel.
Beaches and Festivals:
There are many beaches within 30 minutes drive of Obidos: Peniche, Baleal and Supertubes for surfing fun and wonderful fish restaurants (15 minutes) Foz de Arelho with numerous watersports on Obidos Lagoon and wide open golden sand (20 minutes). You can windsurf, waterski, hire a rowing boat or try paragliding on the lagoon. Baleal beach hosts several international surf competitions during the year. Sao Martinho de Porto with it's safe crescent bay, family atmosphere (30 minute drive) shops and waterfront cafes. Look out for the traditionally dressed women in Nazare, along with a dramatic rocky backdrop to a buzzing seaside resort (40 minutes). Park at Sitio, overlooking Nazare, and take the funicular railway down to the town. Driving South from Obidos you will find Santa Cruz, which is a popular little resort with a beautiful beach. There are music festivals held on the beaches during the summer months, and more events celebrating Rocha pears, grown locally, and the sea.
Travel and distances:
The use of a car is recommended. Lisbon is 1 hour (70km) by car. There is a regular bus service between Lisbon and Obidos, or the railway from Caldas de Rainha. Scheduled airlines include BA, TAP (Portugal Airline) BMIBaby, Monarch, and Easyjet. Porto airport is 2.5 hours (150km) by car. Scheduled airlines are TAP and Ryanair. If you have time to spare, take the cross channel ferries to Bilbao or Santander. The distance from Bilbao is approx 450 miles through Spain (we've done it a few times).

Fatima - 94km, 57 minutes. Sintra - 97km, 65 minutes
Lisbon - 100km, 66 minutes (Center). Constancia 98km / 56 minutes.

Courses nearest to Obidos are; Bom Successo ,10 minutes, Praia D'el Rey 15 minutes, Golden Eagle 20 minutes, Golf do Vimeiro 25 minutes and Campo Real 30 minutes. There are numerous websites detailing the courses and their charges. Please contact us should you need further information.
