The beach of Viareggio is very close, 25 km, and famous places like Forte dei Marmi and The Cinque Terre are also close, and can be easily reached within a 2 hours drive from the house. Tuscany is by far the most famous region of middle Italy. It is best known as the home of Florence where the renaissance of art and sculpture began. Lucca’s province offers a beautiful countryside, the famous beaches of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi and wonderful mountains as the Apuane Alps as well as the Garfagnana Region. Lucca itself is a medieval city on a plain and is still completely surrounded by its 16th Century walls. It has rightly become a noted tourist destination. The rolling hills around Lucca are famous for the extraordinary quality of the olive oil and also the local wine production has been in the last decades strongly increased
