Local attractions: South Barn is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty and numerous beaches are close by (Mattiscombe, Lannacombe, Slapton, Blackpool Sands, East Portlemouth etc.) Also nearby are several characterful pubs such as the Pigs Nose in East Prawle, the Cricket Inn in Beesands and the Millbrook Inn in South Pool, as well as the many restaurants of Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge. For birdwatchers Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve is less than a mile away. Designated a site of Special Scientific Interest it is recognised as a wetland with an important place in Britain's natural heritage. Local towns include the historic naval town of Dartmouth, the lovely seaside resort of Salcombe and Kingsbridge, a riverside market town and tourist centre. There are a number of English Heritage castles and National Trust properties locally as well as child friendly attractions such as steam trains, Paignton Zoo, the National Aquarium in Plymouth, Pennywell Farm and Woodlands Theme Park.
