LA CROZE DE PUYMARTIN, a country house dating back to the 18th century, has been completely restored conforming strictly to the use of traditional materials and architectural design. Our aim throughout has been to design an interior which complements the natural beauty of the setting. This ambiance has been created with great attention being paid to details, including exposed stone and beams, hardwood chestnut and irregular terracotta floors. This private estate of 37 acres, comprising of meadows, private forest and gardens, is nestling in the centre of the grounds of Chateau Puymartin. Access to the property is via a quiet country lane which continues as a forest path leading to Chateau Puymartin. In this protected environment of exceptional beauty, all measures are taken by the owner, who lives on the property, to ensure the peace and comfort of any guests during their stay.

La Croze is situated at 2 km from Marquay, a small quiet village, nestling round a 16th century church. Marquay is a functioning village, with its bar and small supermarket where the locals and tourists can meet for a chat over a glass of wine. There are also several restaurants, serving interesting local specialities. Marquay is situated in the heart of the Pergord Noir, between the two river valleys of the Vézère and Dordogne. It is near to Les Eyzies, the capital of prehistory, and the spectacular beautifu,l medieval town of Sarlat famous for its Art and History. The splendid valley of the Vézère, where many places are listed by UNESCO as world heritage sites, such as Lascaux II in Montignac, Font de Gaume in Les Eyzies, one of the last caves in Europe with prehistoric paintings still open to the public. Along the valley of the Dordogne you will find some of the most beautiful villages of France, such as Roque Gageac and Beynac.

Notes: The generous accommodation is in a semi detached house adjoining the owner’s and is distributed over 120 m² on three floors. On the ground floor you find the living room with open fire place, leading to a large terrace on one side and a walled courtyard on the other side. It is well furnished with a mixture of pine furniture and antique items, comfortable dining area and fully fitted kitchen. On the first floor are two double bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and a separate toilet. On the second floor is a large bed/sitting room, bathroom with bathtub and a separate toilet. The beautiful, chlorine-free, shell shaped swimming pool of 150 m², is situated below the house, offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. A barbecue and outdoor furniture complete your perfect 'home from home' holiday. The vast green space all around the house is at your free disposal.

Our family of 6 had a wonderful week here and would recommend it without hesitation. When we booked the pictures didn't do it justice and if Juanita has not yet updated them, the main picture shows only the drive, garges and a fraction of the grounds. There is a large (but not deep) swimming pool which would be good for learners but still endless fun for our children aged 11 to 15. The interior of the house is beautiful; well maintained with most items appearing relatively new. The spacious grounds are wonderful and we ate outside in the shade of some of the many trees planted around the property. It is in a very quiet setting at the end of a country road at the top of the hill - very tranquil with no passing traffic. Juanita is very helpful and speaks excellent English.

We stayed in this lovely decorated house with perfect facilities: comfortable sitting area, good kitchen, nice bathroom(s) and the bedrooms are also very nice. All new! The swimming pool, the terasses and the whole well maintained terrain are also very very nice. Our hosts were also very helpful with tips where to go and for a chat so now and then. We had a very nice stay. Very recommandable! Fam. Wiggers, Holland

French holiday, Marquay

Excellent holiday. Quiet setting with great facilities and scenery. Pictures on the web site do not do this place justice. Just 15 mins drive from a variety of touristy destinations, plenty of fabulous chateaux and gardens with excellent child facilities.
Owners could not have been more helpful, and the property was very well maintained and clean.
Pool great for children with gentle sloping edges, but still great for adults who want a swim as there is a pump system that allows you to swim against a current.
It is semi-detached but there is no intrusion of space, in fact Hans gave us access to golf clubs to use the pitch and putt course and allowed us to use his gym. There was an endless stream of activities to do, and the wildlife, including some tame bunnies was great for the children.
I would not have any hesitation returning to this property.
Sites worth a look:
Domme, Marquayssac, Beynac, Castelnaud, Hautefort, Boat trip down the Dordorgne and canoes for those with older children, Fenelon, and plenty more We have left plenty of brochures at the house.

5 star accommodation in an idilic setting

The property is surrounded by woodland & rolling hills with stunning views. The house did not have the feel of a property for rental but more of a lovingly restored romantic hide away. The tasteful renovation & decoration of this house has been carried out to the highest standard & the only problem is that retuning home becomes a little depressing after spending a week in paradise. The owners english is almost faultless so any requests for information were dealt with efficiently & without any misunderstanding. We stayed at the property in October & although the weather was lovely we were not brave enough to be tempted by the new swimming pool which did look immaculately kept.

If you can prize yourself away from the house & surrounds then I would highly recommend a visit to the beautiful old town of Sarlat.
