The picturesque local town of Trebes (1 mile away ) is on the canal du midi,where short excursions & longer boat hire can be arranged.Trebes has 2 supermarkets,a choice of typical French bakers,a delicatessen and several quaint bars & restaurants.There is a helpfull tourist office,3 banks,chemists,doctors & a post office, Experience medieval life in the nearby walled city of Carcassonne,only 5 miles away.The Cantalauze vineyard is in the famous Minervois wine region providing endless opportunities to visit interesting wineries and taste their wines.Delightfull Lagrasse 15 miles and an array of Cathar towns ( Minerve ) and ruined castles (Peyrepertuse) easily reached on day trips . Toulouse, Narbonne , Beziers and perpignan all within 1 hr, Numerous Mediterranean beaches 45 mins, Even Spain is not far , an hour to Gerona and Figueras ( Dali museum ) with fascinating Barcelona just some 2 hours or so . Ski enthusiasts can reach the Pyrenees and Andorra in under 2 hours .

Golf and wine: There is a lovely golf course at Carcassonne only 15 minutes from the vineyard. Further local courses are to be found at Mazamet, Beziers and cap d'agde. Keen golfers will also find many glorious courses in nearby Catalonia in Spain Whilst staying guests are welcome to buy white and red wine produced on the estate. The owner is happy to recommend local vineyards to visit where tastings can be arranged.

Beautiful house, stunning location!

We stayed at the Manoir de Cantalauze during the summer of 2009 with our 3 children of 4, 10 and 13. We had the most fantastic time!

The house is furnished and decorated to an extremely high standard with beautiful oak furniture. The bathrooms are really nice and light and the master bedroom had me wanting to move in! My children loved the fact that we were in the middle of vines and beautiful rolling countryside and that they could roam around at will. Its great cycling country with the canal du midi at the bottom of the drive - you can go for miles. We used to cycle into Trebes (the local town) for bread and croissants - it was the highlight of the childrens day to ask for their pain au chocolat at the fantastic boulangerie there.

The kitchen and downstairs area is quite open plan which could be a bit noisy but it has a great feeling of space. It even has a fireplace in the kitchen which would be lovely if you planned to go there off season.

The pool area was just stunning!
You feel like you have arrived in a film set its so beautiful. There is a lovely long pool if you have the energy to do lengths and my littlest appreciated the shallow kids pool very much.
There is also a great barbeque corner in a huge pool house - more like a barn - which also has a separate loo.

Cantalauze is extremely well situated for exploring the local area as it is close to all the main routes. It took us 40 minutes to get to the beach (lots to choose from) and you can get to to Carcassonne in 15 minutes. The old cite is a must. We also loved the Minervois area - lovely little villages and the impressive site of Minerve. There are lots of local markets to visit - Mirepoix is worth the trip on a Monday and Carcassonne has markets on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Trebes itself has a lovely Italian restaurant (kids loved the pizzas) and a fish restaurant (you can see how fresh the fish is as it is a shop also) They are right on the canal du Midi and you can take boat trips just there. There is a local tourist office which is very helpful.


We will definitely be going back!

A relaxing few days holiday

We were fortunate enough to spend a few days in this tranquil setting during the grape picking season. A hive of activity and very interesting,and beautiful weather.

The accommodation was very comfortable for our party of six with spacious bedrooms and living accommodation. The kitchen was well equiped.

The pool area was enjoyed by all and a great place to relax and enjoy the excellent wine produced on the estate.

The surrounding areas is worth exploring with historic towns close by. Canal cruises are available from Trebes and if we had more time we would certainly have spent a day on the water.

We had the wonderful opportunity to visit in Sept of 2008. We found the house very comfortable. Well furnished with excellant quality furnishings. The kitchen is well outfitted and has everything you need.
The surrounding vinyards are beautiful and there are many special tourist sites to see in the area. Perfect for touring or just resting and enjoying the surroundings.
Look foward to a return visit.
