A striking 17th century stone farmhouse, now lovingly restored to its former glory, featuring the original exposed stone walls and stairway with a beautiful pigeon loft ( pigeonnier ) atop the warm traditional terracotta roof. The addition of a modern but sympathetic kitchen extension has completed a truly character filled property , combining charm with all the modern amenities you could hope for in a luxury family holiday home.On the first floor are 2 twin bedrooms with luxury en suite bathrooms.The master bedroom spreads the width of the house above ,with glorious wooden beams under the sloping roof and an en suite bathroom with marble floored shower and separate full size bath.To the rear is a delightful bedroom suite with dressing room and bathroom with a lovely wooden staircase leading up to the romantic bedroom in the pigeon loft . The house has multi functional air conditioning throughout. The ground floor has lovely stone tiles with wooden floors for the bedroom areas.

The picturesque local town of Trebes (1 mile away ) is on the canal du midi,where short excursions & longer boat hire can be arranged.Trebes has 2 supermarkets,a choice of typical French bakers,a delicatessen and several quaint bars & restaurants.There is a helpfull tourist office,3 banks,chemists,doctors & a post office, Experience medieval life in the nearby walled city of Carcassonne,only 5 miles away.The Cantalauze vineyard is in the famous Minervois wine region providing endless opportunities to visit interesting wineries and taste their wines.Delightfull Lagrasse 15 miles and an array of Cathar towns ( Minerve ) and ruined castles (Peyrepertuse) easily reached on day trips . Toulouse, Narbonne , Beziers and perpignan all within 1 hr, Numerous Mediterranean beaches 45 mins, Even Spain is not far , an hour to Gerona and Figueras ( Dali museum ) with fascinating Barcelona just some 2 hours or so . Ski enthusiasts can reach the Pyrenees and Andorra in under 2 hours .

Golf and wine: There is a lovely golf course at Carcassonne only 15 minutes from the vineyard. Further local courses are to be found at Mazamet, Beziers and cap d'agde. Keen golfers will also find many glorious courses in nearby Catalonia in Spain Whilst staying guests are welcome to buy white and red wine produced on the estate. The owner is happy to recommend local vineyards to visit where tastings can be arranged.

My family and I plus friends spent two weeks at L'ancien Pigeonnier in August 2009. We had a fantastic time in a recently newly converted French barn. The conversion has been finished to a very high standard and the pigeonnier is now a beautifully spacious, well equipped and simply but stylishly finished. There is air conditioning through out which is an added luxurgy in the very middle of summer. The pool provides a good combination of sunshine and shade through buildings and trees and is an excellent size. The site is gorgeous being in the middle of a vineyard, and the local wine, grown on the surrounding domaine is superb. We are very used to holidaying in France and know the area very well. There is a lot to both do and visit in the vacinity. A combination of local bars and restaurants on the Canal du Midi, which is walkable, through to the magnificant Cite a mere 10 minute drive away. This was the best home that we have rented in the past six years in the Carcassonne area of France. I would highly recommend it.
