Nerja is still a typically Spanish town, with a maze of narrow and atmospheric streets. Very much a family holiday town, the focal point is the Balcon de Europa. Each evening the Balcon is thronged with people enjoying the free street entertainment, eating & drinking, having their portrait painted, or taking the town tour in a caleche. Burriana beach is the next most famous part of Nerja, with atmospheric beach bars & restaurants. Evening barbecues are held in the summer. During the day there are many different watersports to enjoy, including swimming, pedalos, windsurfing, banana boat rides, etc. If you can persuade yourself to leave Nerja, the nearby 'white town' of Frigiliana is beautiful, and is accessible by local bus. There is a lovely walk back for the energetic, and there are many other local walks. The donkey sanctuary in Nerja is a must for the children. Further afield, Granada and the Alhambra are wonderful, as are the Alpujarras, of 'Driving over Lemons' fame.
