On the edge of the small rural community of Sfinari, the house stands on a large plot of land overlooking the sea, just where the little beach road from the village meets the coast and takes a left bend in the direction of the three fish tavernas, bordering the shingle beach a mere 600 metres stroll away. Originally the home of a humble charcoal maker and inherited by his great, great grandson Pericles, a talented musician and violin player of some international repute, this erstwhile modest stone cottage has been miraculously transformed into a comfy villa furnished and equipped with air-conditioning in all 3 bedrooms plus flood lights set to illuminate the ocean at night in highly romantic fashion.

17km from Kastelli, betwixt the rugged mountains and the endless blue sea, on the very far western tip of Crete, Sfinari nestles in the folds of olive green hillsides. The village economy is based on produce from land and sea rather than tourism, so the few level areas of the village are occupied by greenhouses bursting with tomatoes and cucumbers instead of hotels overflowing with tourists, whilst tucked away on the sunny hillsides are small colonies of blue and white beehives producing wonderful honey from the wild mountain thyme. From the main street a small lane bumps 800 metres down to the sea and a long stretch of beach, where three picture postcard tavernas, serve freshly caught fish in the shade of delicate tamarisk trees and the hustle and bustle of everyday life comes to a virtual standstill beach shelves quite gently into the sea and is a mixture of coarse sand and pebbles, however we are reliably informed that there is an even better deserted beach just over the headland.

Originally the home of a humble charcoal maker and inherited by his great, great grandson Pericles, a talented musician and violin player of some international repute, this erstwhile modest stone cottage has been miraculously transformed into a comfy villa furnished and equipped with air-conditioning in all 3 bedrooms plus flood lights set to illuminate the ocean at night in highly romantic fashion. Spacious terraces of crazy paving surround the house on three sides with a purpose built barbecue to the rear beyond which is a large area of lawn. To the side of the house is the 9m x 5m pool complete with a small children's pool and a remarkably handsome palm tree.

The front terrace overlooks the sea : and is the place to sit and enjoy the sunsets as well as alfresco meals accompanied by the ever present sound of the sea. Inside, the house is furnished and decorated with some style. On the ground floor the spacious open plan living area has high beamed ceilings supported by the original thick stone walls. At one end is a well equipped kitchen and dining area with full cooker, microwave, dishwasher and capacious fridge freezer. Nearby is a large solid dining table and chairs, whilst to the front the sitting area next to the huge fireplace has lovely views out to the sea. There is a further attractive lounge area with 2 comfortable sofas, plus TV& DVD - and from here a staircase climbs to the first floor level and another small sitting area where patio doors open onto the generous terraces supplied with comfortable bamboo patio furniture to relax and enjoy the superb sea and mountain views.

Also at this level is the extraordinary and spacio: master bedroom with queen size double bed and semi circular hydro massage bath as well as a smart en-suite shower room. Two sets of french windows lead to sea or mountain facing terraces where you can sit and watch the sun rise over the mountains or set, sinking into the sea. Across the hallway at first floor level is a twin bedroom with a small en-suite shower room and patio doors to the front terrace. The third bedroom is double bedded and situated on the ground floor at the far end of the living area with windows overlooking the pool and the rear garden. There is an adjoining full bathroom which also includes a washing machine. NB. The small road to the beach tavernas passes to the side of the property, so cars will pass by from time to time especially at weekends.
