Penrhyn Mawr is an 18th Century Welsh longhouse situated in private grounds on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey near to the Menai Strait. The essence of Penrhyn Mawr is one of peace and tranquillity. The property, formally a restaurant, has been tastefully restored and converted into two beautiful holiday Cottages. Both Cottages enjoy all modern conveniences whilst remaining full of character. The Castaways has two bedrooms and sleeps 4 whilst Penrhyn Mawr Cottage, which also sleeps 4, has an upstairs lounge with stunning views across the Menai Strait and the Snowdonia Mountain range down to the Llyn Peninsula. Together, the properties offer high quality accommodation for up to 8 people; ideal for 2 families who want to holiday together and yet maintain their individual privacy. Each property has its own private garden. Beautiful sandy beaches, Riding Centre, Anglesey Sea Zoo, Foel farm, Golf driving range and many other fabulous attractions are just a short drive away.

Fully fitted cream kitchen, with electric hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle and TV. The kitchen is very well equipped with cutlery, utensils, crockery, glasses and pans. There is also a breakfast table and chairs. Leading from the Entrance hall is a utility room with a washer/dryer, WC and wash basin. Also downstairs is the white beamed Master bedroom with en-suite facilities. There is a 5 ft King Size bed, TV and plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. There is an inglenook fireplace with electric flame effect fire. Off the bedroom, the en-suite facilities include a shower, WC and wash basin. Upstairs there is a large beamed lounge with beautiful views across the Menai Strait to Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula. There is a wood burning stove, satellite TV, DVD/Video Player and selection of videos/DVDs. There is a comfortable 4ft 6ins double sofa bed with memory foam mattress in the lounge area. Plenty of hanging and drawer space is provided.

Relax, Relax, Relax!!

This was our second stay at Penrhyn Mawr Cottage and the first time we had ever spent two weeks in one place. We visited for a week here last August and vowed to return. This time, to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary, we decided to extend our stay. Our 16 year old son came with us for the first week and enjoyed the benifits of Sky movies as only a teenager can! He returned home by train after a week to allow us to have some grown up time - albeit with our huge Japanese Akita dog, Sid.We have come home thoroughly chilled and relaxed and aim to return in the next year or two.

The cottage is an 'upside down' house and the views over the Menai Straights to the Llyn Peninsula are truly stunning. The instant you walk into the cottage you can feel all your cares and worries melting away and the owners, Clare and Railton who live in the cottage opposite, are so friendly and welcoming you couldn't wish to while away a couple of weeks in a better place. Nothing is too much trouble and its brilliant to have them close at hand - as Clare says 'we don't do unhappy!'

The cottage is clean, very tastefully decorated and superbly comfortable - my husband managed to read 4 thick books this holiday and I made the sugar flowers for a wedding cake! The facilities are excellent with everything you could want and the garden is lovely to catch the sun in.

There are some beautiful beaches on the island and over the bridge back onto the mainland the scenery round the Llanberis Pass is absolutely magnificent. There is plenty to do for people of all ages and some fantastic walks wherever you go. My son and I climbed Snowdon on what must have been one of the best days of the year for the fine views from the top where we could almost make out Penrhyn Mawr in the distance.

Thank you Clare and Rai for putting so much care and thought into providing such a wonderful cottage - we will not hesitate to recommend it to anyone we know and we will be back!

Our First Family Holiday Together

Dave and I got together almost 4 years ago, only recently were our children allowed to meet (due to ex partners restrictions). We decided on Anglesey because it is a beautiful Island and not too far away from home, if the children didn't get along.
To our delight, we all got along superbly. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect location. Both Clare & Rai our hosts, gave us a lovely warm and friendly welcome as we arrived, their Castaway Cottage was very clean and well maintained, it has everything in it you could possibly need, plus a BIG BONUS is they are available 24/7 incase you need them!
Our children aged 10, 12 & 14 doned their wellies and went off exploring, they had the most fantastic time. They all returned very muddy with big grins.
The morning we left Clare and Rai came to say goodbye, I had tears in my eyes, we'd all had the most amazing first holiday, all thanks to The Beautiful Cottage, our hosts and the fab weather!
We will definately be recommending it to our family and friends and we will definately be going back.
On our final evening, we decided to take the children out for dinner, we took them to The Bridge (next to the Menai Bridge) great food, poor service and very pricey!
