relaxing within the resort for a short stay:
While the area has a lot to do and explore over a 2-3 week family holiday, the house is also available for long weekends, as the compound is self contained , i.e everything you need for a relaxing long weekend golf,tennis, hotel, spa etc; is at hand once you get there.
Within a 5 minute stroll from the property is the golf club house and the 5* Marriott hotel and spa with its choice of bars and restaurants. A number of guests have said our location is ideal, as you are midway between all the facilities. The house overlooks the shared swimming pool for the use of the 28 residents and their guest and the 10th fairway from the 1st floor terrace. The small size of the condominium of only 28 houses of which only 20% are usually occupied ensures a quite and relaxing area around the pool and gardens.
If you do not feel like driving then a taxi from the airport allows you to enjoy the weekend without the need to worry about driving . The local towns Obidos, Peniche are only a short taxi.
Day trip to Lisbon:
Lisbon centre is about 1 hour away by car or take the bus from Peniche . this city on Seven Hills, the birthplace of fado, a maze of dark and narrow streets that date back for centuries, and now, more than ever, Europe's westernmost capital city has quickly become one of the most cosmopolitan. Prized for its seamless mixture of tradition and modernity, Lisbon is like no other place on earth. From Alfama, to the Parque das Nações, to the historical district and the new and thriving business district, Lisbon is one of Europe's most beautiful cities.
Plus shopping !! beside the high street shops in the city , Colombo Shopping centre beside Benfica's stadium is the largest shopping centre in Europe!, with cinemas, restaurants , high street brand shops etc, you could spend a day trip doing this centre alone besides even going into the city proper, only about around a 45 minute drive from the house.
Climate:
Our findings on the climate over the last 5 years.
While we have found Jan-Feb-Mar ok for golfing & shopping etc, as you are on the Atlantic , too cold for the beach etc and very changeable weather much the same as in Ireland or England in Feb., if you need guaranteed sun during Dec-Mar you would have to go down towards the Algarve but great time though to see a Champions league match in Benfica or Sporting Lisbon.
Summers are perfect really from April-Sept really nice cool breeze and seems to be always warm and sunny , well over 30 degrees on average. ( children certainly need sun block every day even if it starts off cloudy as the rays seems brighter and stronger than in Ireland or England).
Surprisingly we have found Oct/Nov for Halloween also warm over 20 degrees but guess we are comparing it to Ireland/England weather.
Also in case its important to you , we have not seen any mosquitoes in this resort or area
Golf:
Our property overlooks the 10th fairway in Praia del Rey with it's first class golf facilities ( voted 13th by Golf World Magazine) , the resort has a 7 court tennis centre, children playground and unspoiled sandy beaches, plus there is a Clube Adventura outdoor activity centre which offers paint-balling, quad biking, orienteering, surfing and archery for older children .
Plenty of other courses in the region, check out portugalgolf.com where all the Lisbon and Silver Coast courses are mapped. We can recommend Praia Del Rey,Golden Eagle, Oitavos (Quinta da Marinha 2nd course),Belas, Lisbon Sports Club,Aroeira and Ribagolfe.
If you are short of time then we can narrow it down to two other courses beside Praia Del Rey
Golden Eagle which is quite close by and definitely worth a visit, as is Oitavos which holds the Portuguese Open in April 2-5 2009..
