Painswick, Gloucestershire is the 'Queen of the Cotswolds'. It is a 17th c village founded by wealthy wool merchants. Limestone chocolate boxes line the narrow streets that tumble up and down. Rolling hills mark the buccolic area of outstanding natural beauty. 90 minutes northwest of London Painswick is centrally located to tour England and Wales. Nearby are Stroud, Cirencester, Tetbury, Bath, Cheltenham, Oxford, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Stratford-upon-Avon. Painswick in Southern Cotswolds is very much like a tradtional English village. Painswick offers a general store, hairdresser, restaurants, pubs, boutiques, art gallery, deli, and more. The cottage is simply a very short stroll to all of this.Outside the churchyard is a bus station with easy access to Stroud, Cheltenham, Cirecester, and Gloucester. The train station in Stroud runs almost hourly to London. While this is a country village with numerous beautiful walking paths throughout the Painswick Valley, it is also very chic.
