La Bourriague is a beautiful estate set in Betous, a small hamlet midway between Nogaro & Aignan. This is the perfect place to relax & unwind. 'Tres tranquille et tres jolie', a dit le maire when we bought it. No kidding! The house, built in 1810 is luxuriously furnished while retaining all its period characteristics. It sleeps 8 people in 4 bedrooms and has 3 bathrooms ( 1 en suite ). It is perfect for exploring historical Gascony, bird watching, star gazing or just relaxing. This is our home, we think it is fully equipped to a very high standard. You are welcome to use everything but please treat as it deserves. The furniture is largely antique Chinese, but with English oak dining tables, John Lewis settees and Marks & Sparks beds.

Betous, a 40 house hamlet with a 17th C. chateau, is one of the oldest communes of Armagnac and hosts the exotic gardens of the Sarthou Palm plantation. The Gers is home to the Gascony Paradox where confit, cassoulet, magret & foie gras plus local Madiran wine produce the longest living dept in France. The Gers has no motorways or manufacturing and so the purest air in w. Europe. The landscape of rolling fields, trees, vineyards ( Saint Mont wine & Armagnac ), chateaux, castles & bastide towns offers magnificent walking, biking, wildlife spotting and wine tasting. The roads are empty should you need to travel on one. We are 1 hr from Pau & Lourdes airports, 1.75 hrs from Toulouse and 2 from Bordeaux. The white sandy beaches of the Altlantic coast are 1.5 hrs away, as is the Pyrenees where you can walk to the cirques or stay overnight in a Basque village. It is 6 kms to the lovely village of Aignan with supermarket, restaurants , banks & bars or 7 kms to the larger town of Nogaro.

Additional information about rental rates

  • The price includes house & pool towels, tea towels ,linen, beds prepared for arrival, cooking gas / electricity & one pool clean per week. It is expected you will leave the house clean and tidy. Should the Housekeeper deem additional cleaning over and above the usual end of stay clean be required, this will be deducted from the security deposit.
    Sorry no pets or smoking allowed.
  • Deposit of 40% with the balance to be paid 6 weeks before arrival. We enter into a contract with you when we issue written confirmation of your booking. Non receipt of the full charge by the due date may be treated by us as a cancellation of the booking and you will be liable for the full cost of the holiday.
    Cancellation : Provided this is received by us not less than 6 weeks before the holiday's start date, only the deposit will be forfeited.
    A refundable security deposit of £1000 is added to the remaining balance payment. This will be held as security and not cashed and will be refunded within 2 weeks subject to satisfactory property inspection.
    The number of adults occupying this accommodation must not exceed 8.
  • The keys to La bourriague are held by a local English Housekeeper, who is available to assist you during your stay.

Notes: This spacious house has a kitchen, large living room, separate lounge, magnificent dining room & utility room. The house has central heating, 3 log fire stoves, room fans, cot, high chair, telephone, many board games, books (local & fictional), maps etc. It is approached by its own 400 metre lane from the chateau, and is in its own grounds with 3 acres of gardens with flower beds, flowering shrubs, fig & walnut trees etc. Most is lawned and suitable for games. A local gardener attends weekly. The Workshop contains mountain bikes, golf clubs ( 2 mens right handed, 1 ladies & 1 mens left handed ( brother in laws so care pls!), cricket, boule, pool tennis etc. The Loggia has sun loungers & table and chairs for dining pool side. BBQ. The alarmed pool is 8.5 metres by 5, & is secluded and sheltered but with view of the chateau All barns, built in 1825, are completely renovated with new roofs, floors, colombage walls. The open air barn has tables & chairs for al fresco dining.

During the summer there is always a festival occurring as wining & dining is a way of life here, and ranges from the world renowned Jazz at Marciac ( 25 mins away ) to local village fetes with eating, tasting, fishing & petanque competitions. In between are Mirande's country music festival ( early July ) and Vic Fezensac's Tempo Latino salsa ( end July ). All are welcome. The Nogaro formula 3 racetrack is approximately 8 kms distance The weather is hot and sunny in the summer with minimal rainfall.

Activities : Golf de Guinlet is 30 mins Golf at Chateau de Tillac is 35 mins. This is our favourite.Lunch in the chateau's courtyard is a must for golf and non-golfers. Golf courses also at Mont de Marsan, Pau ( oldest course on the mainland ) & Auch.
