Restaurants:
The region is not short of good food options :
Chez Bruno, in Lorgues, is a 1-star Michelin favourite, and definitely the best restaurant in the region. Supersized chef Bruno is a truffles addict, so expect them in every single dish (please, do not hesitate to contact owner for link or further information).
Les Gorges de Pennafort is a great alternative, and is located only 10 minutes away. In the summer, make sure you book one if the outside tables in front of spectacular cliffs. Service is always excellent. Les Gorges de Pennafort also offers 3-star hotel accommodation.
The Saint Endreol Golf Course Restaurant has the most scenic terrace of the region, with an amazing view on the mountains and the golf course. The food is traditional and fairly simple, and the service is good. Probably best for lunch rather than dinner.
Typical Provence Villages:
All villages of the area have their own character and are worth a visit. But the following have proved to be quite popular:
Chateaudouble is only 10 km away. This tiny village is set on top of a very scenic cliff, so the view from the main square is stunning. Chateaudouble is still fairly quiet and preserved, so definitely worth a visit.
Bargemon, 6 km away, is more popular. The cafes on the main square will drag you 50 years backwards, though the tourist crowd keeps growing every year.
Fayence, 20 km away, is a bit bigger. The main reason to go is the large antiques market, open most days in the summer.
Gorges du Verdon - Saint-Tropez:
Gorges du Verdon
Not as big as the Grand Canyon, but certainly impressive, the cliffs of the Gorges offer stunning views. They can be discovered either by car along one of the 2 main roads, or by foot or kayak along the water.
The Gorges are less than one hour away. Expect 6 hours altogether to go through the whole Gorges, have plenty of rest time and discover some typical villages on the way, such as Bargème or Moustiers.
Saint-Tropez
St-Tropez can be 45 minutes or 4 hours away, depending on traffic, and in the summer you should expect the worst. If you decide to go to St-Tropez, we highly recommend you to leave Callas around 7am. You will be in St-Tropez within 1 hour. Spend the morning in St-Tropez while all the tourists are stuck in traffic, then leave St-Tropez in the early afternoon. This is the only way to really enjoy this gem.
