Paradise found at Penare!

Date of Stay: June 2009
My family stayed at Penare during the last two weeks of June 09. There were 4 adults and 2 young children, and we all adored it! We all got a little lost when trying to find it, as it is quite off the beaten track, but it was definately worth the journey. The house itself was immaculate and beautifully decorated and furnished to reflect seascape colours, providing a calming atmosphere. It was a lovely large house, with more than enough space to ensure privacy for all. The kitchen was amazing and a perfect area to congregate.......we are now devotees of Aga cooking! The snug was wonderfully cosy and our only regret was that it was too warm to light the woodburning stove!
The garden was full of flowers and wonderful for the children, and we all really enjoyed having barbecues on
the terrace. The sense of peace and tranquility was amazing. You literally could not hear anything but the birds........and around eight each evening the two guinea fowl who nestle in the trees!
Sue who owns the property is next door, and was terrific help in making sure our stay was all that it could be. She provides a detailed folder covering everything from fire drills, to how to use the aga and the best places to eat in the area and beyond. Sue was extremely prompt if we needed help or advice, including when a member of our party had to see an emergency dentist!
The area around Penare is breathtaking, and although you cannot see the sea from the house, you are just a 2 minute walk from the most amazing views across the fields. It really is breathtaking! There is also a five minute walk through their private path through woodland to a private beach, and coastal walk.
We were a party of quite diverse interests, but the Lizard area catered for all of us. My boys loved the beautiful white sandy beaches that seemed tucked away in the coastline, whilst the adults loved the coastal walks and days out. Glendurgan gardens with its amazing maze, Lizard point with a pasty from Anns, the Helford river by boat........perfect. We were also in a great spot to visit the Eden Project, St. Michael's Mount, St. Ives and The Minack Theatre to name a few!
South Restaurant was fabulous in Manaccan as a special night out, and we all enjoyed the most phenomenal roasts at The Five Pilchards in Porthallow. If you take the ferry to the Ferry Boat Inn, do not order the steak.........but the seafood is good!
An amazing holiday in an amazing house for two glorious weeks!
