Riad Zalia
Review Submitted: June 2, 2009
Date of Stay: April 2009
We stayed at the Riad Zalia as part of a two week trip to Marrakech, Fes and Rabat: our stay at Riad Zalia was undoubtedly a top highlight! The outstanding experience begins even before you board a flight to
Morocco-- your hosts are cooperative and informative about all aspects of your holiday. From the booking process through to logistical (travel and arrival) arrangements, you are guided by the helpful and caring people of Riad Zalia. Once based in Riad Zalia, you are inside the Medina with all major sites within easy distance by foot or by arrangement.
Our group spanned parents to teenagers to young children; everyone was delighted by the Riad. It's fully furnished; so, you may choose to completely cater for yourselves. The Riad Zalia staff will clean and help quietly, without disturbing your peaceful solitude. Alternatively, the staff can cater to you as well as (or better) than a hotel: from home-cooked "room service" to concierge-like appointments. While Arabic is the native language, French is well understood and so is English. We had no communication trouble whatsoever, in English.
The Riad Zalia website is dependable and accurate, although the first in-person impressions remain stunning. The interior shows great attention to detail, in both the selection and the execution of the architectural and decorative features. The Riad is a great combination of sleek modernity with traditional Maghreb flourishes. The facilities are superlative: they are unique in style and rival American sizes in proportions (from the full baths and showers, to the large terrace with its splash pool and sundeck). The kitchen facilities are comprehensive too. The Riad is in a safe environment; and, it's also safe inside (although youngsters must be watched nearby railings, as is true everywhere).
We stayed at the Riad Zalia during April: in the spring time. It was pleasantly warm in the day and cool at night. (We never needed air conditioning.) All the shops, sights and sounds of the souks surround you; but, a 5 minute walk takes you to the edge of the Medina for vehicle access to greater-Marrakech (including the modern Marjane supermarket, for those who are self-catering.)
Guests without access to British pounds or Euros should plan ahead for making payment; but, there are several solutions which your hosts will be happy to discuss with you. The only disappointment with Riad Zalia will be your departure; but, you'll always be welcomed back!
