Things to do and see: Unlike larger towns and coastal resorts of southern France, Anduze and Ales have retained their character and charm. In Ales there is a daily covered market and on Mondays an open air market spills out into the surrounding streets. There are free music shows every evening in summer months and many festivals throughout the year. In early May the local Feria turns Ales into a 4 day street party, with bull-fighting in the local arena and parades and dancing in the streets. The ever popular provencal market in Uzes on a Saturday morning is a must, with its pretty squares filled with artisans' stalls. Uzes and Vezenobres are just two of many medieval towns and villages in the Cevennes foothills. Stretching from the mountains and forests of the Cevennes to the salt marshes of the Camargue, the Gard offers a huge variety of attractions. Nimes boasts the only fully preserved Roman temple of the ancient world: the Maison Carree, and the city centre features a number of shops and attractions.

Things to do and see cont..: The famous Roman arena is host to excellent live concerts and bullfights in the summer months but advance booking is essential. The Pont du Gard, just northeast of Nimes, is the largest surviving Roman aqueduct, while Aigues Mortes to the south is an almost perfectly preserved walled medieval town. For lovers of the great outdoors there are endless opportunities for cycling, hiking, pony trekking, fishing and canoeing. The nearest golf courses are Nimes Vacquerolles, a good 18 hole course, and Uzes, a pretty testing 9 hole course. There are miles of sandy beaches on the Mediterranean coast and countless vineyards to explore and enjoy with wonderful fauna and flora walking in the Cevennes. For the less energetic, there are scenic drives in the magnificent Cevennes - to Mont Aigoual, the Cirque de Navacelles and Gorges du tarn. With superb light and beautiful views, the area offers great opportunities for those who love photography and painting.

Other Activities: kayaking: ice-skating: ten-pin bowling

My two year old daughter and I loved it.

This is the perfect place for a rural French holiday. The barn itself had a massive living area and was very clean and tastefully decorated. There was a basket of toys and books for my daughter, which kept her happy. She loved the swimming pool which had a slide and loads of inflatables for her to play with. I loved the scenery, which was just beautiful. The owners were more than accommodating. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend.

A wonderful holiday.

Review Submitted: April 17, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
I went on a holiday to 'the barn' in Bel-Air with my two sisters and 2 year old niece after it had been recommended by a friend. We had the most wonderful holiday. The photos do not do the barn or surrounding area justice. The barn is spacious, comfortable, clean, well decorated and furnished with wonderful views and outdoor space. The owners, Jo and Eti, could not have made us feel more welcome and the small touches such as fresh bread and delicious home made apricot jam in the kitchen on our arrival made the stay even more enjoyable. If you don't want to spend your day lying by the pool surrounded by lavender and spectacular views then there is also lots to enjoy in the nearby area which Jo and Eti were more than happy to advise us on. One of the highlights was eating fresh seafood while listening to local music and drinking local wine in the nearby village. My niece also had a great time and the 4 of us want to make this an annual trip. We can't wait to return and would highly recommend it!

French Countryside Relaxation

Allen NY New York
Review Submitted: April 9, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
I had an amazing time staying in the barn. It has all the features you need - comfortable bedrooms, plenty of space with nice furniture, a large kitchen, and several other amenities. You can't ask for a prettier location, as it's surrounded by vineyards and farms with views of the hills and countryside. Not to mention it's a short drive to many markets and charming French towns, and less than an hour from the beach. The owners are lovely people and extremely accommodating. They were very respectful of our privacy and were open to any questions we had. The property is spatious. I spent many hours quietly relaxing by the large pool or on the patio and didn't even leave the property certain days. I would definitely go back!

Wanted to go somewhere to escape from the London hustle and bustle. A friend recommended Bel-Air for my family to go for a child freindly place to holiday in.
It was perfect. Lovely surroundings, beautiful bike rides and daily barbeques, lazing by the pool with the kids thrilled with the choice of inflatables!!
The local markets and cafes are great for a spot of retail therapy too.
Can't wait to go back this summer!!

IDYLLIC

Clare Mwsn London
Review Submitted: March 29, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
IDYLLIC .. Place to relax and/ or immerse yourself into the local way of life. Easily found with SatNav from Nimes - approx 1 hour away. It was the perfect balance for a holiday home, removed from the towns but still accessible quickly for wonderful markets, local restaurants wished but also self contained for a chilled out hol's if prefered. I liked the simple comfortable interior, which had good privacy from the owners house, who seemed invisible .. it became a good game to try to spot them around!! We spent much time sipping wine at the pool and watching sunsets - BLISS.
