The entrance to the Old City is at the top of the street. It's charm will entrance most people for their first few days. It's a piece of living history; in the summer the knights joust in the lists and street musicians and jugglers in medieval costumes mix with the crowds, and it's full of restaurants and interesting shops.
At the bottom of the street, the Old Bridge leads into the New(C14th) Town with its bars and clubs. Turn left at the bottom of the street and 15km of walking or cycling paths lead you out into the open countryside; or you can stop and fish off the riverbank. Walk through the New Town (20 minutes) and you are on the Canal du Midi; you can take a boat down the river, or bike it along the towpath. A lake with a beach, the Lac de la Cavalyere, is only 4km from the house; or you can reach the Mediterranean beaches on the train. The golf course is 1km away. In July the streets are alive with street music and theatre; in December the town square turns into a skating rink.
