Mas Soubiranne is a rustic Catalan farmhouse, recently re-furbished to high standards, with marble tiled bathrooms, antiques, a bread oven and original artwork. Arrive via a winding mountain road (15-20 minutes, 5 miles from Ceret), past deep ravines and ravishing views. The Mas nestles among old stone terraces, meadows, and oak and sweet chestnut forests, part of a small estate of 3 houses previously owned by a 19th c bishop. Rare serenity with proximity to Ceret! The Mas has a new,fitted kitchen and master bedroom on level 1; an artisan-designed spiral staircase leads to a spacious 'sejour' with fireplace and double bedroom. Level 3 is a mezzanine with 3/4 beds - ideal for children. The outdoor terrace is planted with figs and vines. A brief uphill walk leads to a landscaped stone terrace and 6x12 m. heated infinity pool. A new pool house with kitchen facilitates spellbinding poolside dining as the sun sets behind Mount Canigou. Mountain walks straight from the breakfast table!

The house is about 7km above the Catalan town of Ceret, an historic market town in the Vallespir valley. Ceret has three main claims to fame: it is traditionally the first town in France to produce cherries (a selection is sent to the President every year as soon as the first crop is ripe); it also has a very strong artistic heritage with its own prestigious art museum. Among other famous painters, Picasso spent much time here; and lastly Ceret is still a bull fighting town with two corridors held every year in June. These latter events are very popular with the locals, but less so for visiting tourists. The house is within walking distance of Spain and offers many hikes. The Mediterranean ports and beaches of Collioure and Argeles are half an hour away and medieval Perpignan is 40 km. Barcelona is a 2-hour day trip. Local activities are many and varied; there is a freshwater swimming lake for kids with a tree canopy walk and giant trampolines; horseriding, biking, canyoning, etc.

  • Changeover day is flexible. Arrival after 4pm and departure before 10am.
    Towels and linen provided. The property is cleaned at beginning and end of your stay. A booking deposit of 25% must be paid, in order to secure the reservation.
    The full balance of the sum must be paid at least 4 weeks prior to arrival.
    A €400 returnable deposit is also required in advance, to cover damage and breakages.
    Linen and towels are included. A shopping service is available.
    Long weekends and midweek breaks may be available at some times during year. 4 day weekends and midweek breaks are priced at 60% of weekly rate.

All rooms have wonderful views over the mountains.

Notes: This is a rustic location and many parts of the property is woodland or wild meadow, where our neighbour grazes his horses. The walk to the pool is up a sloping hill. There may be wildlife at a distance from the house, including wild boar, but these are shy and rarely seen. A shopping service is available. The house is serviced by electricity only, not gas; plentiful fresh, cold water comes from our well. Please feel free to use the firewood. Heating surcharge in winter. Grounds are tended by a gardener and the pool is cleaned and maintained twice a week.
